You have a freedom of choice. You choose which color clothes you wear, whether you go to London or Madrid for vacation, whether you eat kebab or pasta for lunch.

But Carlin is right. When it comes to the grand scheme you don't have a choice. We don't live in a democracy, the people don't decide, people only elect officials that chose between themselves first who's going to run anyway.

You live by a scheme designed for you by others. As long as you do not realize that, you do not have a choice. Where you think you decide yourself, in fact you get decided. Whatever the illusive choice you make - it ends up with supporting the scheme, the system, the whatever-you-call-it.

I'm preaching this since years.

Notorious believers in the scheme's attractions may call that tin-foil-hat paranoia. But those who learned to look behind the facade of modern life and society, know what I'm about. You do not wake up from this collectively induced coma easily. If a politician were to run for office saying what George was saying he might have an 'accident'. Still none of this is new. He said the last 30 years, but I would say it's always been that way. It's funny but even on a local level, people that you are acquainted with will get elected to political office and then you see them on TV spouting the same political gibberish that they all say. It kinda sounds right but it's meaningless crap. But somehow we're satisfied. Still.....

No you guys were right the first time, it is tin-foil hat paranoia. I've been listening to George Carlin since the 1970's and he always was a bit of negative nancy but in his later years he really became dark. A failing common to folks as they get older.

The truth is that "Wah wah the game is rigged against us so why even bother trying" is little more than an excuse used by the lazy to quit before they even start. In life we play the hand we're dealt and it does no good to sit on ones duff and whine about it.

Apart from that, people learn as they grow older, and they probably will not do some crazy stuff anymore, that they did in their youth.

You will criticless buy goods you do not need, and likewise believe in your nation or government, as long as you are young and dumb.
With experience you will probably stop to do one or the other. Or both.

And it is very unfortunate that people die when they are old and experienced enough to see how things work.
Because with more of them, politicians and governments would not be able to tell the same lies again and again.

Some people become wiser with age this is true but I think in most cases people only become more firm in their beliefs rather than change them.

Case in point my grandmother has always been a conservative she did not vote for Roosevelt the last time he ran (she was born in 1922) she voted for Ike and Goldwater and Nixon you get the idea.

Her son my father has always had democratic leanings but has not always voted that way.

With most people I know it seems this way most generally stick to their guns and few completely change ideologies.People can have an ideology and also observer the world and adapt but usually they do not completely change.

And a blind fool can stay a blind fool some people only see what they want to see and fail to learn from experiences.

I agree. I myself have become more and more firm in my belief that I don't know anything, and neither does anybody else.

I can't argue there. I loved him in the early days, especially his "news" reports and most especially 'The Hair Piece'. As he got older he got angrier, and I have trouble with politically motivated hate speech, even when it's generic.

I think that far too many people take their ideology and view the world though it strictly and the world is far to complex a place to view things this way.

I sometimes think what would make a great movie or even book would be a situation where two people of completely differing ideologies and strictly adhering to them get stuck into a life or death situation that requires solving a complex problem by working together if they can.

Western system is guided by set of rules just like economy and so on...
Ii is not designed for us but it evolved mostly around us...this may be a unclear issue when it comes to EU though in last decades.
