Default Is the Steam version of this game good to buy?

I know the Steam versions of SH4 and SH5 have some trouble with dealing with mods, how does the Steam version of SH3 fare in that regard?

Theres a few minor things you have to watch out for, but I've had no major problems.

I've only run into two issues with steam so far.

The first being that the auto-rollback feature of SH3 commander doesn't always seem to function the way it should. The second issue is that when reinstalling I think you'll need to manually remove your SH3 documents folder, though I don't know if that's a steam thing or if the CD versions of the game will do the same thing.

That goes for all versions. When reinstalling always delete the SH3 folder from My Documents. Running a good registry cleaner doesn't hurt either.

Personally I can't say anything about Steam. It's one of my best jokes that when I tried to buy the original U-Boat expansion for SH4 they told me they couldn't sell it to me because I don't live in the United States. They may be right. Utah does seem like a foreign country sometimes.

Steam.

Urghhh, can't imagine why you'd want it.

I have the displeasure of owning 3 titles (I purchased the physical copies mind you) that run through steam and It gives me nothing but trouble. Now, when I'm considering buying a title, steam requirement is a major consideration against making the purchase.

The only selling point is auto patching but to me this is a big draw back too. If I see a flaw with a program I'll find a solution as I see fit, not because Steam tells me to.

Buy the disk, It's very cheap and you can decide when and how you handle your software.

The auto rollback is one, I think it's due to the lag from steam launching the program. But it's a non issue really if your careful with your mods.

The other is installing super mods. The files are not where the installers think they are, you just have to redirect them.

I've got the game on Steam. Despite the horror stories - and a couple of horror exeriences of my own - since I upgraded to a new computer it works like a dream. But each to their own.

I run GWX, SHIII commander and various sound mods, all work with no issues. As has been said, sometimes Steam puts it in a random place but once you find it, it's simply a case of pointing the installers there and everything seems to run no problems for me.
