Using GWX 3.0 and SH3 Commander Together

Here's how it's gone for me.

1) Got the stock game and loved it. (This was before I was informed of the blessing that was SH3 Commander and way before I ever found out about GWX 3.0.)

2) Inquired about this wondrous program everyone was talking about that is SH3 Commander and then received enlightenment. Downloaded, installed, and was a very happy U-boat skipper.

3) I then endeavoured to find out about the phenomenon that was referred to as GWX 3.0. Needless to say, I was totally blown away by this and immediately installed it. From then on, I was a very VERY happy U-boat skipper.

4) Started having problems with the game (made the mods to gain more promotions, but nothing happened), so I uninstalled SH3 Commander and just used GWX 3.0.

5) Thinking about reinstalling SH3 Commander, but my question is this: if I do, under which file do I open the game to get both GWX 3.0 and SH3 Commander operating together?

Moin,

did you install / add the extra config files for Commander running under GWX?

They are necessary and can be found here:

http://www.thegreywolves.com/downloads/

Maybe there is no need to reinstall the whole thing....

Edit: When you point Commander to the correct GWX - path, You'll be able to start the game through Commander

Yeah, I was a bit preemptive in posting this thread...it all figured out by itself. Now if I can just get the 'more ranks' thingie to work right, all will be good.

in your initial post you said " (made the mods to gain more promotions, but nothing happened) " I was search'n for a mod that would do just that, give me additional ranks. I know of a mod called " Additional Ranks ". Can't remember where I got I from and there wasn't a "Readme" included. So I probably won't use it. I tried in another, earler post to get some feedback on it, but it went cold. Well anyway back to my point. What mods did you try, for the additional ranks ? thanx Jerry

My friend, my advice would be to leave them alone...they're a lost cause. I just tried to get more ranks, and my SH3 CRASHED. I lost my best career yet (both Nelson and Rodney, plus 3 Southamptons sunk; nearly 500,000 tons sunk total and it was only January 1941; yes, I am DEFINITELY kicking myself), and I've reinstalled both SH3 and GWX 3.0 TWICE and it won't even load now. I'd just do what I initially did and say to yourself "In terms of U-boat skippers, you da man!" and just mentally 'promote' your character whenever you feel he's deserving. Silly? Of course. Safe for your career? Definitely.
