Space Engine - 3D space simulation software

Here's a great piece of free software that I found while browsing around on Youtube.

Space Engine is a space simulation that lets you explore the universe, going down to planets, or go to other galaxies.

It's similar to Celestia if you're familiar with that one.

There are some truly beautiful sights to see.

Be advised that the three direct download links ring alarm bells by MBAM and Avira Internet Security 2012. They block access to these download sites.

I had no problem downloading the program, it took about 35 min.

But when I tried to run the game I got a message "The program has been prevented to run, to protect your computer"

Lionclaw, I'm sorry to say but I recommend you run a full system scan with a virus-scanner on maximum settings, and then with a Malware-scanner also on max settings. You might be in trouble and just not knowing it.

I downloaded it via a torrent, Avast didn't notice anything.

Avast is quite quick to warn when there's something bad it has detected.

This is an opportunity to say it again: these days only a firewall and a virus-scanner is no more enough, even more if one uses free versions, and these or commercial versions not with internal settings maxed out for the most. Beef up the settings! Better some false alarms too many, than one true to less.

A dedicated malware-scanner is mandatory these days, too. Almost all the minor and major alarms I had in past two years - not to many, but still - were not rang by my anti-virus, but anti-malware during active HD scans - the malware slipped through the virus scanner and firewall, therefore, which both are commercial full versions since quite some time. Malware and virus scanners are different, they not excel in finding the same stuff, but different stuff. They are a team.

I now have rewarded Malwarebyte'S Antimalware for having served me well in free active scans for two years by paying them - and getting several updates per day and now online live protection as well. Alternatives maybe are A-Squared, and maybe Ad-Aware which has been refounded more or less after new owners took over the business. It originally went down the drain some years ago, but now seems to have recovered. But MBAM is the choice I trust most.

Too bad, the software offered in this thread looks very sweet - and maybe that is right the honeytrap in there.
