New to SH5, couple of questions that I can't find a specific answer to

Hello

I'm fairly new to the Silent Hunter series in general, I tried SH4 a while back I think but disregarded it as I found it too difficult to play (too impatient, kept using TC when around warships etc.), but recently I picked up SH5 for £1 on UPlay (bargain of the decade!!) and it's rekindled my enthusiasm for Sub Sims as I'm more of a casual player (I currently have realism set to 48% and haven't yet learnt how to use manual TDC) and SH5 kind of meets in the middle it seems in terms of arcade vs sim. I've also reinstalled SH4 to give that another go, but I've yet to get into combat or do anything but navigate, so far I've just gone from Pearl Harbour to Midway on my way to attack Honshu on my first mission.

So, anyway, I have a couple of questions I'm failing to find specific answers to wrt SH5, apologies if I've overlooked the answers, my search-fu is admittedly not very good.

I've got v1.2 (obviously) and the only mods I have installed (so far) are as follows -

Digital UI clock.
Damage Assessment
Accurate German Flags
Enhanced Recognition Manual
Shadow Improvement Mod LR

My questions -

1. Recognition manual.

If I hover my mouse on the far left whilst in observation periscope (doesn't appear to be present on the attack periscope) or whilst in the uzo view, just about where the mapping tools icon is, I can click to bring up a recognition manual (this is true in vanilla SH5 so not related to the ERM mod I think).

This -

But it only seems to give me American ships and I can't work out how to change the country, I've tried the obvious, clicking on all the available graphics such as the country flag displayed.

What am I doing wrong there?

2. Torpedo Depth.

I've been reading a few threads about effective shooting and a couple of people suggest setting torpedoes to depths like 4m.

So I thought I'd give it a go to see if I could cut down on the number of torpedoes it takes me to sink ships (on average 2-3 torpedoes per ship meaning I have to go back to port to refit, usually at Heligoland, after sinking a couple of ships using only torpedoes).

However when I've tried this, shooting at ships that supposedly have a draft of >4m according to the in-game info the torpedoes just go straight under the ship (or appear to on the map) and carry on their path until they do whatever it is they do when they've run out of range.

I've tried doing it with magnetic detonation and with contact detonation and both produced the same result. Seems to work fine for me though if I keep the torpedo depth set to 1m-2m.

In all cases I usually set the torpedo speed to full and shoot from 800m side on to the target (as close to 90 degrees as I can get).

So, what am I doing wrong with regards to this?

Moin, try to read some threads about these issues in the Mod sektion.

Unfortunatly the stock has some bugs, although after patching to 1.2.
