cannot initialize 3d engine

I just bought Silent Hunter 3 from steam (I loved Silent Hunter 4 and wanted to try something that wasn't broken like Sh5). Running windows 7 64 Bit and I can't manage to start the game. How do I fix this?

I had that issue recently too and it was Graphic Card driver related so i switched back to an older driver and it worked.

Check you're running in the correct resolution of 1024x768, unless using a res mod.

Exactly as Kongo Otto says, I'm guessing you're using an nvidia card. Latest drivers I can use successfully are v266.58. They can be found here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-wi...ql-driver.html

Ensure when you uninstall your old drivers, you install these in custom mode and select the 'Perform clean install' check box.

All should be good to go. All the best

I used an online tutorial to change the registry. It gets a bit choppy but it's playable. A quick google search and you'll find a bunch.
