Default Lifeguard duty

I cannot complete this assignment. When I reach a downed airman and go to the binoculars, I cannot find a way to highlight the guy preparatory to bringing him on board with the Rescue Icon. The binoculars work fine when viewing a ship which I can lock onto but not a downed airman. Can anyone show me the way. Tnx.

You have to go slower than 5 knots(or was it 3 knots).

In general slow down.

I always sail up next to them, stop, look through the binoculars and click on the life ring and they get picked up. I just did this mission and had a flight of jap aircraft harassing me the whole time. I shot down three and foamed one before running out of ammo.

This may sound stupid and I am only throwing it out there, are you sure your using the binoculars and not the TBT. Some people have mistaken the two before and the TBT won't work on downed airmen.

The only way I get this to work is as stated above is get really close and go very slow. You must get the survivor dead center and click the icon.

What I do is use the arrow keys to move the binos and put my mouse on the icon and when it lights up click like a crazy fool till you get the guy.

I do enjoy the lifeguard thing but it's really broken. If you're playing the single mission, stick around the survivor to the south west of the ring icon, you just may run into a very fat unescorted TF with 5 CVs.

this new method works great for high speed survivor pickups, the swimmer hops onto the torpedo and it circles back to the sub with him onboard

havent figured out how we dont all die in the end thou
