Default Russian armed forces chief critical of Finnish-Nato cooperation

I thought that in remembrance of the Cold War people here might be interestid about this.
Quote:
Russia's top military commander told a gathering in Helsinki Tuesday that Finland should not desire NATO membership. Instead, he offered closer cooperation with Russia.
Article in english is available here. Finnish language version (available here) contains one more interesting point:
Quote:
While commenting NATO's missile defense project Gen. Makarov presented a map where the border between spheres of influence of Russia and NATO passes through the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia just like in Cold War. Finland and the Baltic countries seem to be included in the Russian sphere of influence.
Opinions?

Finns please correct translation errors, thanks.

Russia only wants Finnland to protect them. They remember what happened in 1939

Russia can take their sphere of influence and shove it up their collective backsides. We had our 50 years of occupation, I'll take our chances with the west.

You mean massacre? Respect to the Fins for doing what they did. No other country in the world could do as much with so little.

Finns are much better soldiers they are good fighters. It takes 20 Russian troops to equal one Finn.

The Russians are fools if they think that any nation considers them trustworthy.Sure the US is far from perfect but the Russians are 10,000 times worse.

Translated:
The russian bear: "Where to now?! I want to play in the same sandbox as nato!"
Finn on the left: "Whats up with him now?"
Other finn: "Dont know, winter war concussion acting up?"

Translation not verbatim, but to give on the meaning.

For the Finns it might be interesting that the speech has been published as well, but unfortunately I couldn't find a translation in English. Not for the TLDR folks, but nice for those interested in the context.

During 1939 - 1940 my grand father's unit was fighting with soviets in Raate. It was one of those bloody cold days when a young soviet officer offered to surrender. But because my grand fater's unit was in hurry, they shot the guy. Such is war. It's a long list of russian mothers who lost their loved ones.

So, if mr. Putin would like to come as an invader next time, I'm confident it would not be "nice staying in Finland" to him anymore. Traditions are traditions.

Greetings,

-RC-

Just how many countries broke away from the good ol' USS of R?

And what made them think that a neighbouring country with which they've such a bitter history would want to 'join' them over NATO?
