Default Sonar equipment AI

Historically the allied forces added more sonar equipment instead of replacing it. Page 592-593 of the GWX manual ("and at least one type of ASDIC or sonar"). I'm interested if this is modelled in SH3. Edit: not too sure about this statement anymore.

Which SHIII files do I have to look into if I want to see which types of sonar (ASDIC) a Hunt III destroyer is equipped with by 1945 for example?

tool: S3ditor
edit: and SH3 File Analyzer

Of course it is. Since the early days of Stock-SH3. Have a look into the SNS files (data/Sea/NDD_HUnteIII/NDD_HuntIII.sns or something else). There you can find which senor equipment will come on time.

Thanks Rowi.

Used SH3 File Analyzer and got this about passive and active ASDIC of the HuntIII:

HUNTIII
type123p 1938 01 01 - 1941 06 01
type128p 1941 06 01 - 1945 12 31
type123a 1938 01 01 - 1942 06 01
type144a 1942 06 01 - 1943 06 01
type147a 1943 06 01 - 1945 12 31

Couple things:

1. Dont understand exactly why there isnt an 128a and/or 144p. Is this correct? edit: (type147 isn't available in passive form, so that one I understand).

2. Edit: figure B11 (GWX manual page 593). AIsensors.dat: Q sensors=sonar (US equipment), while type123-147=ASDIC (British). However this has nothing to do with the picture probably. It's just that Q stands for active capability. Nationality has nothing to do with it most likely.

3. HuntIII is only using one piece of active ASDIC at a time and is not adding better equipment, it is replacing older devices.

Hi Vince82,

these values are pure Stock-SH3 values. GWX doesen't change the NDD_HuntIII.sns. For your understanding, have a look into the "AI_Sensors.dat". There are only very little differences between the actice / passive devices.

Nearly every ship in SH3 has only one (3d-)node for passive sonar (H01) and one for active sonar (N01). It can only use one of each type at the same time.

Greetings

IRL the differences between various ASDIC equipment were huge. Whether or not this is modelled correctly will very much affect the way we play the SH3 PC simulation game. That's why I'm interested in researching this. Well I'm not the only one here, that's for sure.

I'm familiar with the AI sensor.dat and I know a lot of modders have been tweaking this file for realism. Including you, right?
I was referring to the GWX manual mainly to make clear what I'm talking about.

(please take a look again at my previous post, because I made a typo and changed #2 statement)
