Default EEOC rules job protections also apply to transgender people

Source: http://articles.latimes.com/2012/apr/25 ... r-20120425

Quote:
A ruling this week by the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is being seen as clarifying that rules of employment law apply to transgender people, who may file complaints under federal anti-discrimination statutes.

In an email to The Times, EEOC spokeswoman Christine Nazer wrote that the ruling is now "the EEOC's position, and we will apply it in all our enforcement activities" under Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act, which prohibits job discrimination based on race, sex, religion and national origin.

That will include investigations into discrimination complaints against private and public employers, Nazer wrote.
Well this was a rather nice breath of fresh air coming after what just happened in NC. I'm honestly surprised this didn't happen sooner seeing as you can get job protections for just about anything these days. As happy as this makes me, though, I am beginning to wonder where the line is going to be drawn. So far pretty much everything that has been protected like this has been things that I feel should be protected, this included, but I am beginning to wonder what the actual guidelines are for what can be considered protected. Even someone as far to the left as I am knows there has to be a point where the government can't stop a company from firing you, and I'd rather like to know where that line is.

Important lesson there.
If you tell someone the job is not available because it has been abolished due to budget cuts do not give someone else the job you just said didn't exist.
