Shore Leave

Hello Everyone, I've been on leave from the game since November of last year because of my computer crashing. Just got a new and I'm trying to install JSGME v 2.6.0.157. It's been a while since installing this program. Just have a question about the installation. I installed JSGME in the SH IV folder, after which the 'MOD' folder was inside the JSGME folder. Does the 'Mod' folder stay inside the JSGME or does it go somewhere else. Thanks for your help in advance!

Hey Larry, welcome back! The installation of JSGME should of installed the "MODS" folder within the root of SH4...in which the mods actually reside.

The remaining install files of JSGME should end up in the root of SH4 as well.

JSGME comes as a compressed group of files. Using a tool like WinRAR, you "Extract" it directly to the Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific root folder (where ever you installed it). The "MODS" folder is automatically produced, along with a couple of other folders/files, in the games root folder. That's it.

It's important to know where your games root folder is. If you've forgotten, do a search. Windows XP defaults to "C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific". Vista/Windows7 will be different. Using "Windows Explorer" is the best way of navigating through the computer folders to get to the games root folder.

Once JSGME is installed correctly, open it and under the "Tasks" menu, have JSGME "Take a Snapshot" of your fresh game files. This will give you an idea of what has been "left behind" when shuffling mods in and out. Will the stock game files change as you move mods in and out? Does a bear xxxx in the woods!?!

Thank you sir for your reply. Something just doesn't look right, so I uninstall/ install the Gold Edition of SHIV. My OS is Windows Seven, this shouldn't make any different to how the game functions, should it? I'm going to follow the steps of MOD Installation Step by Step that I used when setting up my last computer.

Thank you CapnScurvy for your reply. I installed JSGME in my Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific folder. When I opened it, the 'Mod' folder was inside the JSGME folder. I took a snapshot of the game files. Extracted TMO 2.5 into the Mod folder, activated the mod. I still get the vanilla opening to the SHIV. I still haven't found what I'm doing wrong.

When you do the install, do NOT create a JSGME folder.

The install directions tell you a way to install by creating a JSGME folder if you are using one copy to mod several different games. But in this case just install as CaptScurvy said directly into your SilentHunter folder. There should not be a JSGME 'folder' only a JSGME.exe file. (and of course the MODS folder)

As Peabody points out, your root folder of Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific should not contain a folder named "JSGME" (which has the "MODS" folder in it). The "MODS" folder has to be directly under the games root folder, along with such other SH4 game folder's named "Data", "RegistrationReminder", "Resources", and "Support". I'm assuming you know the difference between a "folder", and a "file".

You'll have a number of other game "files" also sharing the space within the Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific folder. Several of these files will be installed through JSGME entitled "JoneSoft" (a text Document); "JSGME" (it's not a "folder", but the actual excutionable application, with a big yellow "Gme" as an icon); a "JSGMEHelp" file; and a "JSGME.cfg" file. If these files aren't in your game root folder, directly under the Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific folder heading, then there's your trouble.

One more thing, if Windows7 is like the Vista OS, the SH4 game root folder should not be placed under the Windows "Local Disk (C)/Program Files", or "Program Files(x86)" folders. What you should do is have the stock game installed directly under the "Local Disk (C)" folder. Something like "Local Disk (C)/UbiSoft/Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific". Don't put the game under the "Program" folders. For some reason the Vista OS (maybe Win7 too) will cause a problem when starting and saving games from these folders. Don't install the game within these folders, put it directly under the C:/ folder.

Once you get this folder/file structure ironed out, you'll need to take another "Snapshot" with the JSGME application. The snapshot you took was probably not of the main game files, because the app wasn't directly under the root folder of the game.

Thanks Captains for your quick replys and help! Yes sirs CapnScurvy and Peabody, I was placing the folder of JSGME inside the SHIV folder and it was causing my problems. When I removed the application from the folder and placed it inside my SHIV root folder, the TMO screen came up after starting the game instead of the vanilla screen. (Earlier I guess I couldn’t see the forest for all the trees.) And as you suggested CapnScurvy, when I was installing SHIV, it was placed directly under the local disk C. I never had any problems with Visa on my last computer. Good hunting Captains and hope your fish run straight and true!
