Default Michele Bachmann Becomes Swiss Citizen

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/m...054706406.html

I'm not very up to speed on U.S. laws regarding taxation policy for dual-citizenship, but this does make me wonder. Also, do the protections afforded Swiss citizens and their assets held in Swiss banks apply to dual U.S. citizens and offer them a shelter against prying IRS eyes?...

Maybe she's got a hankering for real swiss cheese. Or she because she wouldnt need to obtain a visa everytime to travel around most of the EU. Of course theres that tax shelter thingy which may have persuaded her to become a swiss citizen over becoming a french or brit.

I think shes having an affair with Federer.

While we all have opinions concerning Bachmann, this does raise up some interesting concerns.

Leaving the persona of Bachmann out of it, let's look at what dual citizenship means.

The correct term is actually dual nationality. The key to dual nationality is

Quote:
dual nationals owe allegiance to both the United States and the foreign country. They are required to obey the laws of both countries.
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p.../cis_1753.html

What are people's opinions here on whether a member of congress should be allowed to serve when the voluntarily swear allegiance to an other country? The constitution does not address this.

There is also the concern with members of congress with dual allegiance having access to classified or sensitive information, but that's another issue.

So should a member of congress be allowed to serve after swearing allegiance to a foreign country?

Poor Switzerland....it's bad enough that we have to deal with her lunacy here.

Quoted from the above mentioned link:
"Congresswoman Bachmann's husband is of Swiss descent so she has been eligible for dual-citizenship since they got married in 1978,"

So what was the problem exactly?
