Forty-nine years ago today, USS THRESHER (SSN-593) and 129 men were lost in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Cape Cod. Please take a moment to remember their sacrifice and the sacrifice of all those who remain on eternal patrol.

It seems like just yesterday to me ...
I joined the Navy March 1962 served a year on a cruiser as radarman and they put her out of commission in March 1963 and then I recieved orders to report aboard the USS Salmon SS-573 a radar picket submarine on April 6th 1963. 49 years ago I was a mess cook on the Salmon when I heard the news the Thresher had been lost. I hadn't even been to sea on a submarine yet, but I was too busy washing dishes to worry. My mother was a different story however lol
