Germany'S special relation with environment protection policies

Don't get me wrong - I am all for nature conservation and environmental protection, and have said often enough that I think global civilisation does more damage to nature than mankind in the forseeable future can survive anymore.

It's just that us modern Germans are an intrinsically extremely stupid people, because WWII has bombed our brains into pieces. We love to think of ourselves as the reincarnation of ol' holy Saint George, this time not slaughtering dragons, but killing the demons of environmental sins and leading mankind the way towards a brighter, a lighter, a cleaner future, with supranatural light emitting from Germany into the world and serving as the example all others willingly - and volunterily - will crave to follow because it feels so good to be like us.

It's just that a little reality check easily shows how misled and counterproductive many of our little messianic actions are. Not only do they not change the world, they often even change things for the worse, even if nowhere else than just in Germany. I look at local German specialities like the "Dosenpfand", and energy-saving lamps, at water-saving, the "Energiewende", "Hausdämmung", ending nuclear energy, emission certificates trading (for the most a German idea) and "Dichtigkeitsprüfung" - and see it all backfiring and doing more bad than good, often m ultiple times more bad than good, often rightout triggering the negatives that one wanted to prevent in the first.

In the end, we are not that holy at all. Many peopole do not really take interest in the effects their behaviour does for the rest of the world, or nature. They are already satisfied with simply believing that it makes a difference for the better. Checking with the facts is a burden only few are willing to mess around with, it is easier to make oneself comfottable in thje cosy warmth of assumptions based on ideologies based on utopias based on ecologically fully balanced Nirvana. Proven false asusmptions and polciies however do not get coprrected or even mentioned - that would mean that especially the Greens would piss their voters. Instead one defends the policy of doing damage, and pushes it even further, claiming it to be good where in fact it causes bad.

Maybe you know that old Stallone movie Demolition Man, and the tyranny of softies that it describes as a not so far away future. Friendly, but dumb. Well, that's us.
