Default Newbie: Need some Mod Help

Howdy! I am new to SH III (beleive it or not), and looking for some quick advice on what are the best 2 or 3 mods to get and install.

I am looking for realism; I don't care about graphics or sound

Prefer ones that are relatively idiot-proof to download and install

Oh, and links to where I can find them would be doubly-awesome!

Thanks in advance chaps!

Welcome to Subsim q-ball.

I would start with GWX 3-0 and SH3 Commander. There are many other game play mods as well. Try them out to see what you like.

SH3 mods can be found here.

Good hunting, any questions feel free to ask.

Search for user name "Jimbuna" and click the link in his sig for GWX3. Grab that, SH3 commander and the GWX3 config installer for SH3 commander and you're good to go!
They are all self-installers with very good readme's.
Enjoy

Wow, thanks for the quick reply!

Last question, I see the downloads, and a search on GWX turns up a bunch of pieces, but can't find the "Gold" version, which I think is a comprehensive Mod. Am I missing something?

Do you have the link to the specific GWX download?

Thanks! Like I said, "Idiot-Proof"

If you're looking here - http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/jimbunaGWX3.0
then you want to either get the GWX3_FullSingleInstall.exe.1.torrent with bittorrent or which ever you use.
If not you can grab the individual .bin files + the .exe file and install it that way.

Why limit yourself to 2 or 3?

Or even 1 supermod.

Get multiple installs and run all the supermods. Make a mod soup buffet!

Your best bet in that case is probably NYGM. It has several wrinkles that make the game just a little more challenging.

Great replies! I am going with NYGM based on what I read.

The documentation requires an install of "JScones General Mod Enabler" to work properly.

1. Is this still necessary if I just bought the game?

2. If it is, where is JSGME?

Yes, it's vital. You don't have to have it, but it lets you install mods easily, warns you of possible conflicts and most important lets you remove them just as easily.

And the thread that tells you all about it.

JSGME is an awesome piece of kit - well worth the time getting to know it.
