I need to travel extensively for the next couple of months but do not want to give up playing SH4. Therefore I need to modify some keyboard shortcuts for my laptop without numeric keypad.
At home the laptop has a nice big monitor and a keyboard plugged but of course not when I am traveling. Can somebody help me to create a "mini-mod" which changes the keyboard shortcut layout? I need some keys which are only available from the numeric pad changed to a keyboard without numeric keypad. Thanks in advance for any input! |

Thanks so much for your reply!
The most needed keys in the numpad are - and + for time compression and and . for turning the UI on and off, and yes, the "Enter" key, too. Which keys to assign to, well, that's a matter of taste, what ever is available. Thanks again. |

Yes the + and - keys and the . for turning the UI on and off are the big ones. The rest I can work around. Thank you for doing this for us when you do get a chance to do it.

This is the answer to all your problems. Make your own key map.

Hum, can't change the . to turn the UI on/off. It must be hard wired.

There is a command to hide the UI, and you should be able to map it with jimimadrid,s program.

your laptop probably has a keyboard that allows you to access the Num Lock feature. On my loveno laptop the entry is Fn and Num Lock. Then when I hit the "." key, I can insert the crew in the anti aircrapt gun station in TMO. By hitting Fn and Num Lock as second time, the regular keyboard is resurrected and the gun is manned.
If you research your keyboard set up, you should be able to locate the combination required to use the Num Lock feature. The problem is that when you are in Num Lock mod, many keys may be assigned different function, so Keymapper may be the best bet. |

That is exactly the problem, it is not listed as a command in the commands.cfg file. But the "Esc" key for the "in game menu" is not listed there either so there must be another file where these keys are assigned to certain in game commands.
Maybe somebody knows... |

I am not sure what the problem is. I have a laptop and I mapped this on my computer. However, I used set keys to do it, but it was at least a couple of years ago and I don't remember how I did it.
SetKeys was developed forSH3, but with some effort it can be made to work with both SH4 and SH5. SetKeys has the advantage in that it can asign a series of commands to one key When I have time I will look into it and see if I can do it again.

Here is the outcome for me:
I was not able to remap the numpad "." because the "hide UI" command is not handled by the command.cfg but I could remap numpad "+" and "-" (by now without the keymapper program) by making changes in the command.cfg. To solve the problem with the numpad "." key (hide UI) I used a program called SharpKeys to change the numpad "." to an unused key on my laptop keyboard. Thanks to all for the help!
