Default DW and Win7

Can DW be played with win7?

I've tried setting compatibility to XP with no luck and Win 98 with no luck.

My PC has a nvidia 560 graphics card which seems to be the source of the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What problems did you encounter ? IIRC only trick is not to use Program files folder, as it is protected.

What is the exact issue you are encountering? I run DW on Windows 7 and with the occasional 3d slowdown (DW does not like multi-core processors), I have no real trouble.

The menus don't come up. The initial video plays and when it ends the menu options on the left flicker on and off rapidly and then disappear and reappear and continue to flicker rapidly.

I installed DW in it's own root directory C:/DangerousWaters.

Upgraded to vs 1.04 and the update found the directory without help from me and did its thing.

If I click a menu option'l location I can go to the screen to change options.

Clicking the missions option (when I can find it) brings up the green globe and that's all.

I set compatibility as noted before and even ran the Win7 compatibility troubleshooter.

Tweaked my video card settings (nvidia 560) back to what was available in 2005 when I bought DW - no joy there either.

Ahhhhh...

See I'm running it on a PC with an Intel I7 gen 2. I has 8 cores.

I wonder if setting core affinity to just 1 core would work?

I have the shortcut propperties set to XP SP3 compatibility and Disable Desktop Composition and Disable Visual Styles checked. I'm not sure anymore if it is realy required. But generally I do not alter these settings if it doesn't help. So it probably did.

[EDIT] Another reason might be that DW doesn't detect widescreen resolutions (atleast not on mine), and it gets stuck on that somehow. I remember forcing the resolution setting to non-widescreen, and let my graphics drivers stretch it to maximum size. (with black side bands)

Been there and done that. No joy.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Default Got it to WORK!

Problem wasn't affinity like I thought. Problem was the graphics setup.

Went into the nvidia control panel and set the default for dangerouswaters.exe to application control and turned off everything else in the panel that didn't have an application control setting.

Also set to run as administrator and installed DW in its own root directory.

Worked great. All processors turned on.

Now where do I find LWAMI? I remember it being a great mod worth the effort to install.

Default Anti-Aliasing must be turned off...

Like noted before DW is now working...

though without anti-aliasing turned on. With my old PC I could force anti-aliasing on no problem worked great but that was with a Radeon graphics card.

My new PC has an nvidia 560. Turning on antialiasing and overriding the application control setting is what crashes DW.

Looks really ugly with no AA - but it is playable. Any ideas about how to get AA working?

Got LWAMI installed and it is as I remember a great mod.

Thanks for all the help so far guys.
