Default one tiny question

hello everyone...

I have one question: my marks on the nav map disappear when I reload my saves. This happens even in stock...

is that a normal issue or did i do something wrong?

That's entirely correct, the map tools marks disappear each time you restart a game.

TheDarkWraith's NewUI includes a feature where you can save marks to the persistent ship's journal though, but not map drawings.

Could someone explain this journal to me?

On the main menu of Silent Hunter 5 with TDW's NewUI installed you'll see an option towards the bottom called "Ship's Journal" with the word "None" below it.

If you click on "None" you'll get a little dialog that lets you select or create a journal. Go ahead and create one called "MyJournal". This will return you to the main menu and now instead of saying None, it will say MyJournal.

That has created a file that will keep track of all your journal entries until you change that value.

So now you start a patrol and enjoy life on the open seas. When it comes time to end your play session you must choose Exit to Main Menu instead of Exit to Windows. Doing so will bring up a new window after you've exited the menu asking if you wanted to save your information to your journal. Save it all.

Now, next time you start a patrol enter the game, open the in game journal and choose "Load Journal". Type in the name of the journal you're using "MyJournal" and load it. Now all the of the destroyed marks, nav and SM marks and journal entries from your previous play session are now available in this new session.

I hope you really don't have to do that with v6.9.0. Once you create or select a journal then it will automatically be selected upon next game start. It will also be automatically loaded when you start a campaign game/mission. All the marks and entries should be visible when you get into the game.

Let me know if this isn't happening with v6.9.0

Using the information shown in post #5 (Kylania) and post #6 (TDW) in this thread I was able to get "My Journal", actually "myjournal.sje" to show under "Ship's Journal" on the options page of SH5.

The problem now is that whenever I click that link my computer goes into a hard freeze and since I've played SH 5 in the non-windowed mode I could not even see control manager to shut it down. I was left with no other choice other than using the computer power button.

I've since done a search and found the file in Silent Hunter 5>LOGS>myjournal.sje.

Any ideas as to why this crash is occuring or as to how to stop
it would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Quink

Anytime you have a problem with my UIs mod it's best to run the DbgView app before you start the game (found in \data\Applications). When the 'problem' appears send me the output of the DbgView app so I can see what was going on. Also include a description of what was happening, what you were trying to do, etc

As requested, I've made the DebugView file but I must admit that I haven't a clue as to how to send it to you. The only way I can think of is to copy and paste the whole nine yard, and I mean that almost literally, into a reply in this thread. Would your like me to do that or is there a better way. Forgive my ignorance but I'm rather new to this.

Thanks Quink
