Default Hello Subsim

Good evening, everyone.

I´ve known of this great site for a long time , but until now I´ve been a lurker. This is definitely the place to come for mods, stories and to learn a thing or two about real submarines.

I´ve been interested about WW2 submarines for a long time. I guess the spark started back in the days of Silent Service II. It didn´t bother me that all I had was two colours, screen the size of my hand and beeper sounds. I loved it and played the [expletive deleted] out of that game. And it really got good when I got my hands on a proper 486, it had actual colours.
I liked Silent Hunter even better. Now that was a really good game.

Maybe that´s the reason I never really got a taste for the Atlantic. I´ve dabbled with SH III (with Grey Wolves, of course!) But I´m far more interested about the history, men and machines from the U.S. side. SH5 may be prettier, but I still like it better to roam the Pacific ocean.

It´s great that Ubi is still taking the risk of publishing submarine sims at all, but the vanilla version is often.. lacking.
So, I really want to tip my hat to all the good folks here, who have the skill and patience to push Silent Hunters into a whole new level.

Now that I´ve let loose my first fish, let´s see if I can get that Trigger Maru update and a 3000 yard bearing plotter..

Welcome to Subsim, it would be a miracle if the Silent Hunter series continued but you never know, I keep my fingers crossed.

Thank you for your warm welcome.
I wanted to make sure I didn´t fudge up the titles, so I did a quick search first. And now I´m having a bad case of nostalgia. I still remember every single one of those screens. That first Silent Hunter still looks great to me.
I still vividly remember the "wagonwheel of doom". Five or six destroyers circling overhead as one is doing a depth charge run. And when they spot you the whole formation re-centers and the cat-and mouse game starts again.. Good times. If you lived to tell the tale, that is.
I´m not sure if the current SH4 has that? I´m still struggling with TDC to sink even unescorted merchants, so I leave convoys alone.
