I shouldn't imagine that was an accident

If it had been quicker it might have saved a life. I wonder why the car did not stop. Very sad indeed.

Maybe he was a terrorist and didn't like the IDF.

It looks like classic mishap....all answers are in the article.

IDF forces came out of the observation tower, but did not manage to set up a checkpoint in time, and so they signaled to the vehicle to stop.
Ah I missed that bit, so there was no checkpoint actually setup, I think the poor Rabbi could be forgiven for not realising he was meant to stop at a 'soon to be but not quite' checkpoint. What was the given signal I wander? If it was dark and the soldier was not standing visibly in front of the car in the beams of its headlights, how would he have known to stop?

Sammi - while it does not state what the "signal" was, its more important to note that the soldier who fired violated the ROE according to the article.

Its sad - and I find it ironic that from one perspective, it was a Palestinian who came to the aid of an Israeli against the IDF.

You have the occasional loose cannon - but we also don't know all the facts. Its hard to judge a person's view and intent - especially in what is (or in this case - what they think is) a possible combat situation.

This is a perfect example of why ROE's are often more restrictive than what the guy at the bottom of the chain thinks is appropriate. Sometimes ROE's cost lives when they are followed - in this case, not following it cost at least 2 lives - one dead and one ruined, with 2 more harmed.

BTW, I love the word Accidental in quotes. Giving the ads around here, I wouldn't expect much sympathy to the palstines. LOL

Not at all. The ads have a bot that associates them with the thread you're reading.
