Default Accurate Radar Performance

I was wondering if their is a mod out that reflects RADAR malfunctions? I've read about this happening numerous times and was looking for more immersion. Thanks.

The Radar in TMO seems to represent malfunctions in it does not always pick up a target at its max range, esp the early SJ set.Depends on where target is in relation(how the signal hits them i guess?) and skill of your operator.Weather may have some affect on it as well.I have noticed that sometimes, soon as convoy is in max range of radar, itll pick them up, other times, i've made visual contact before radar contact is reported. This is mainly with the early SJ set(for historical accuracy, i only use the A scope until the newer SJ -1 is installed in boat, do wish could black the PPI scope out until player upgrades to SJ-1) I recall this started in one of the versions just before TMO 2.5 and has carried over, it makes the SJ not always the super spy radar, mimics it was an important but emerging technology it was.SJ-1 radar is much more reliable.Crew assigned to radar also has something to do with it as well, esp on the first SJ set.

Ok, thanks. I was reading the book about the Rasher by Sagan(?), and it mentioned how the SJ would actually shut down on numerous occasions. Was thinking how neat that would be to have a power malfunction for extended periods of times. Maybe I'll mod it someday.

That would be great.

Yes, we do. I'm no modder, but I'm going to look into it. Read stories how Captain's would sail for days in 'safer' areas waiting to get the radar back online. Also, I wonder just how many boats were lost by aircraft, due to SD or SJ not working? Sure would add to the immersion.

I wonder if I can shut down the radar via the damage screen? Just for random periods of time. If so, HOR engines could be the same way. I imagine different radars, depending on the year and what type of boat, would have variable malfunctions. Hmmm, lucky I have Silent Victory. 😊

Yes, it would be a great addition to SH4.
