A year ago? Ha, I even never logged one!

Nor Twitter. Nor Google+. Nor Youtube, and all the other gimmicks of carelessness they have invented to make you agree becoming a product yourself that they could sell.

Just Paypal I fell for, for some time, but have corrected that - as I reported back then - earlier this year, during the Assange headlights. It took several mails to get a confirmation from them that they would delete my banking data. Of course I cannot be certain of that they did. It was a very grave mistake to have have logged into Paypal. Just to pay some stupid things that other ways were not avaialble. Stupid, but taught me a lesson: data I once revealed about me, never will come back to me and hide in the locked box again. Okay, lesson learned.

And Google Search I only use for uncritical, harmless search terms. Nothing of which somebody in 15 or 20 years could construct a bad surprise for me.

Sounds par for the course. Facebook is the original Zombie Invasion.

Quote:
WARNING, PLEASE READ -Tomorrow, Facebook will change its privacy settings to allow Mark Zuckerberg to come into your house while you sleep and eat your brains with a grapefruit spoon. To stop this from happening go to Account> Home Invasion Settings> Cannibalism> Brains, and uncheck the; "Tasty" box. Please copy and repost!
Seriously, when a service like FB is offered for free, you're not the customer, you're the product. Like any other product you can get stolen off the shelf.

I'm prett made at youtube, as they want you to register w/ google. They wouldn't even let me access my account (meaning upload, like, check messages), so I just updated my "junk email" with them.

Same old crap. Sorry, but you keep bringing up the same arguments. If not for Facebook I never would have found my daughters (actually they found me) or met my grandchildren. If you let FaceBook dominate you it will. My sister just barely figured out that she might be posting more information than she should. The answer is don't be one of those people. You can complain about people having bad things happen, but if you refuse to be one of those people you can avoid all that. Do that and FaceBook can be a useful tool, one with many possibilities.

You love to post about how much you hate FaceBook. Fine, but it has done me some great services, including keeping in touch with some friends from Subsim on a more personal and private level.

Anything you can say about FB you can also say about Subsim. The only "friends" I have here are people I've either met or worked with. I don't see you posting about the evils of Subsim.

I was a member of Facebook and deleted my data and closed the account, several months later i get an email from Facebook to say that my account has been reactivated!! WTF!! Closed it again but is it really closed? probably not!
@ Skybird, I have had an account with PayPal for a few years now, never had any problems whatsoever, easiest way to pay for most online transactions!

I guess I'm not totally "anti-facefook"; I'm not a "hater" so to speak. Maybe I'm just paranoid about their services. It's set off my virus software one too many times. Even though I had the "block" on, I was amazed how many times I had to re- turn it on again

If I were to sign up again, I'd be really picky about who I friended.

On a side note, I'm glad to hear that you found more of your family. Have you found any other "long/lost people?"

I found people from elementary school, that I hadn't seen since I moved in 82.

I say the same thing as Sailor Steve.

I have a FB-account, but I do not share everything and those thing I do share, I share only with my friends

If my friends wanna know more about me they can email me and ask.

I know that FB are using cookies on my computer-It's a bad thing to do. However if it can make them happy so be it.

I have rejected every commercial spot that appears on my wall.

But without FB I hadn't met my old schoolmates and old working colleague

Edit
To say it strait: some people are really Stupid!!
"Facebook said this week that hackers using stolen username and password credentials try to break into at least 600,000 accounts every day on the mammoth social networking site."

I know that there are many on FB that clicks on page that contain vira or they give away their account to who it may be. So many on FB are just 110 % stupid.

I'm sorry, Jason. I didn't mean to come off as rude or defensive. I seem to be "having a day" with everyone today.

A good idea. As with Subsim, All my friends there are either real friends or aquaintances or people I've actually had dealings with online. The guys in my band are "friends". Their wives and girlfriends too, as well as one brother of our main guy, who I've met with a lot. On the other hand his other brother and more distant relatives are not, as I don't really know them. I seem to have a lot of FB "friends" (43 the last I checked), but they are all people I've met or know from Subsim.

Oh yes indeedy. I recently got a request from someone I knew in a church group long ago. This led to a few others, and one of them was a guy I also played in a band with back then. It turns out he's had a 25-year career as a recording engineer and producer, and that led to us now being in his studio for our current project. We've done a lot of catching up, and he and the guys in the band really like each other, and we spent eight hours laying down tracks yesterday, and we can already tell that he's going to do a great job for us.

So yeah, FaceBook's been good to me.

The problem with sites like I mentioned above is that Steve and some others are wrong when assuming they were in control of what they do with their data. The problem is that they not only collect much more data then you peopole usually are aware of and establish prfiles that can commercially be turned into a product they sell to other companies (the more complete this profile, basd on user statistics, is, the better, and things like faces, names, asdresses, tel-numbers are just an additonal bonus). The problem is that they even deceive their users and lie to them about what they can prevent the service to do, and in rerality it is just a fake button or -function and while you think you have forbig this or that, in reality they just carry on. The probvlem further is that the younger ones you do not know a world without these networks are educated to be totally un critical and undistanced to the practices these service maintain in the hidden, and that young people are that way becoming used to not care for privacy and data protection at all.

German federal police and German federal office for data protection are warning against companies like Google and Facebook for their explcit record of data protection violations. In several European countries and I think also Canada and Australia currently court cases are being run against Google for having intentionally breached according law.

These companies claim the right to accumulate an ammount of data about your everyday life habits and customs that surpass everything you accept your natiopnal polcie and intel services to gain about you without a judge formally allowing it. They claim the right to breach valid laws and to lie to their users and to deceive them. They claim the right to turn you into a product withz which they make money with you never being asked, being left in darkn ess as much as possible, and also not being considered for sharing the profit they make with selling you.

It takes a great ammount of intentional naivety and simplification to simply ignore all these ^ implications.

Reece, banking data you place at Paypal first are an obkject of attack for hackers, talking of financial crime. Paypal is attractive for hacker's attempts because it is so lucrative a treasure it has to offer. But the actual reason why I boycott them was their obedient submission during the events around Assange - behaviour like that I really take queer, and I keep a note in my memory on it. Is Paypal comfortable? Yes, no doubt. Is it worth the risk? No. And nobody, after the many data scandals of the past four years alone, please nobody tries to tell me that it is just paranoia, and completely unfounded. You either have lived in a parallel universe or are already suffering from Altzheimer if you think so indeed. I also do not like the way how ebay, the inventor and owner of Paypal, has started to enforce this payment scheme for its business to make additional income from the payment procedure at ebay itself, and I also do not like how they have turned the whole platform there - but yes, Ebay that is a completely differfent story, just wanted to mention it.
