Ex-chancelor Schroeder, socialist, made himself heared today, claiming that Germany should get merged into a federal European state.

The worrying thing is that even in Merkel's party more and more voices can get heared saying the same.

There even have been the first voices saying that once again the German people should not get asked in a referendum if they want such a dissolving of the German state.

My issue with that is that all others in Eurpope are envy at us, and thus they will do their best to bite the biggest piece out of our treasury as possible. That they would follow the German example and merge themselves into a federal superstate - is uncertain, to put it very defensively. And what should that be good for anyway? We need coordination, and competence - not empty symbolism, uniformity and dream-dancing. We have had that with the Euro, tom cover the real idea behindit: to push the D-Mark out of its hard and dominant position in Europe if the German unfiication could not get prevented. If Germany gets united, so the calculation, then at least the D-Mark must be destroyed.

It worked wonderfully, and probably better than Mitterand imagined.

A European federal state - such a structure would not solve anything, it would not bring economic stability and more ficnial reasonability to Europe. The structural problems would remain. Just that they are no longer associated with regions named sovereign states, but local regions inside a bigger state. The structural deficits would remain.

In germ, any, we have a system of balancing finances between our 16 federal states. The history of the past 60 years shows: it does not work as advertised. The poorer countries have not become economically less dependent from payments of the rich states in the south - quite the opposite, they have established and now bitterly defend a status quo that allows them to take those payments and waste them on purposes that have not helped to become certain regions and federal states economically stronger, but that are ideologically in line with "agendas". They continue to live beyond their means, especially if governed by the SPD. Education, school quality has not improved, quite the opposite is true in most cases. They settled down in the cozy warmth of their nests that get payed by the net-payers in the south, and just leave it to that. That they call "soldiarity" and "social justice".

The growing inner tensions in Germany's inner -social-national structure, due to the massive movement of people from East to West and the rapid overaging of our society, also does not get recognised and calulated for this demand of a Germany merging into a European superstate.

To hell with his talking of European superstates. Politrivcians have messed it up on national levels and internationbal conferences. How could anybody seriously expect that they would do better if their playground becomes an even bigger state with even less chacks and balances, and even more distant from the electorate? All this will do is politicians causing even bigger messes, and Europe becoming even more autocratic and neo-feudal, and the people being even more alienated.

Bah.

A European federal state also would not stop the Americans to attack the Euro. Let'S face it,m with the problems they have with their own debts and currency, the Americans simply have zero interest in a strong europe and a strong Euro currency. They want to reduce their debts by inflation, they want the global financial dominance of the dollar, they want a weak, non.unified europe that weaknes itself an is less effective in resisting to and cpompeteing with the US. As a german papoer today corretckly identified, it is a disaster that now the Europeans have accepted the ICF to get engaged much more in Europe, because in the ICF the Americans are (still)dominating, and beyond the ordinary pragmatism of rivaling economics, principle anglosaxon and European ideologies on the role of central banks and how to guard a currency could not be any more different.

The Chinese will use the opportunity to boost their status if they will to invest into the Euro. They will use the opportunity to also buy shares in the gems of European business and enterprise portfoloios, and speed up the tranfer of knowhow, and winning of influence over European key enterprises. Which in the long run will weaken us even more towards them - but no politicians says that today, they all just save their offices for the next day, and after them: the great flood.
