Default Compartment remained yellow even though damage repaired

After making a night surface attack on a convoy I took a bit of damage on my way down to the cellar. My crew managed to get the repairs underway and successfully stopped all the flooding. However, after completing the repairs in the stern quarters the colour of the compartment remained yellow. There was also a blue coloured line (presumably representing water) over the batteries. The result of this was that I could not hold my depth steady at 2 knots or less, the boat would slowly sink by the stern, which is very much like the crash dive blues bug. The screenshots below illustrate what I am referring to regarding damage. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

It won't say it's fully repaired unless ALL water is out of the compartment. That seemingly small amount of water can still wreak havoc on your depthkeeping.

The blue does indeed mean you have flooding in that compartment, but it would also say in in the script, so that's probably not a problem. I see you have the Hull Integrity meter switched off. You've probably taken some hull damage, which would account for the depth-keeping problem.

You'll know for sure if you suddenly get crushed at 100 meters.

...interesting. i have recently had the same, after a heavy canning, the compartment remained partially flooded. i could not clear the water. and yet it read in the legend nothing to repair. or something like that anyway.

( am reading Peter Cremmer's U333, so its got a little more poignantcy than normal - boy , did his boat take a beating and get away with - for a while...)

After the attack there was an escort close by pinging so I let my boat slip down to 150 metres before increasing speed to maintain depth. I managed to evade and surface sometime later to resume my attack on the convoy, but luckily didn't have to dive again to avoid the escorts. I got back to Kiel and discovered my hull integrity had dropped to 76%.

The water is an indicator that whilst you have stemmed the flooding that compartment has sustained damage that is not repairable until you return to base.

Had you the hull integrity viewable it would show a % drop from 100%

I notice he has no repair qualified POs (I can't tell about the officers). Would a complete lack of repair staff make some damage intractable? Or would they just the damage fixed faster, but only to that level?

I couldn't honestly say, I've never tried or tested that before.

I suspect the compartment would eventually be destroyed and the boat with it

All my PO's that have attained the most senior rank available to them have repair qualifications, you just can't see it without actually clicking on the PO. Once a PO has attained the highest rank available to them (I'm sure someone will be able to name that rank) they can gain up to three qualifications.

It is well known that you can assign up to three qualifiactions to PO through Commander , but only the first one counts.
Ie If a PO has the Machinist qual and then the repair SH3 understands only the Machinist.
As for the sailors , assiging quals is only eye-candy.
Only officers have three real qualifications.

Thanks, I didn't know that regarding PO's. I knew that the sailors quals were eye candy, but it helps me organise the crew in the boat.

This being the case then, even if you haven't got any suitably qualified repair PO's, presumably if the green bar is full in the damage control team section you are still at full repair capacity?

Pretty sure that is true.

Another tip; having a Repair qualified officer or PO in a compartment helps repair that compartment even if the Repair Team is not assigned to it. It won't be as fast or efficient, but they can certainly repair light stuff.

The reason I ask is that I get a full green bar at the top of the damage control team section when I put all available PO's in there to repair damage. I also put an officer in there who does have the necessary repair qualification, so perhaps that's what makes the difference.

Having a Repair qualified officer, plus a raft of ordinary POs would certainly send your green bar to the right.

However, it is more efficient to have 3 or 4 POs whose qualification is Repair. It lets you deploy a deep team if you have to, or split them up if the damage is relatively light.

Also, all of my officers get Repair as their 2nd or 3rd qualification. You can't have enough of them when things go badly.
