Poland votes in general election!

People in Poland are voting in a parliamentary election which the governing centre-right hopes to win.If successful, PM Donald Tusk's Civic Platform would become the first Polish party to win two consecutive terms since the fall of communism in 1989.Mr Tusk has presided over four years of strong economic growth.Analysts say turnout will determine the make-up of the governing coalition. Civic Platform is currently allied with the Peasants' Party (PSL).Opinion polls suggest Civic Platform (PO) is likely to win Sunday's general election. However low turnouts have traditionally favoured its main rival, Jaroslaw Kaczynski's conservative-nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party, which has a more loyal core constituency."Nothing is prejudged yet, we will be fighting for our coalition to the very end," Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, also a deputy head of PO, said this week.Analysts say a low turnout could force the party to seek a less natural partnership with the opposition Democratic Left Alliance (SLD).

460 MPs and 100 senators will be chosen. Two main parties, PO and PiS, aim at reaching at least 28-35%, two other- SLD and one uncredited in the article, aim at 10-15% and several(3-5) aim at 3-8%. Turnout for 2 pm was around 20%. Expected overall turnout is smth like 45% but I doubt it will be reached. Lower turnout favors PiS, higher would bring better results for PO. The voting will end at 9pm. There have been no major problems so far, 2 fake bomb-reports which hindered opening one of the voting spots.
I haven't voted yet, I will vote for PiS (the party that ruled 2005-2007).

Palikot movement (gay marriages, closing churches etc)-10%
PSL ("peasants")-8%
SLD (neo-commies)-7%

@these wondering why there are so many Poles in the UK.
Lots of Poles enjoy slavery and humiliation, taking jobs which repel "gentlemen".

Maybe this "General Election" will prove the kind of strong military leader that Central Europe needs at this crucial juncture

Well they certainly don't experience that type of treatment in the UK....we even pay Child Benefit into their bank accounts.

yeah, I agree. I just wanted to point on the general tendency. Vietnamese come to Ukraine, Ukrainians come to Poland and Poles go to the UK, Germany. When you go abroad to work, you usually don't expect to be a manager or smth, you just hope that the currency relation will allow you to save some money. The popular trend of going to GB to earn a living has changed, mostly bcoz Polish zloty grew a bit stronger in relation to pound.
And I'm not saying that Poles were getting the worst kind of jobs there, I was just saying that, in most cases(except for "labor camps") they deliberately agreed to take such jobs.

No problem...I was treated with equal kindness when I lived and worked in Holland.

I'll trade you an island nation with a few poles, for a contintental nation with an open unenforced border to Mexico and a high unemployment rate.

she is from the "neo-commies". She got 500 votes. Actually, 500+1
it was fun to hear the comments of some feminists after she published her "programme".
