Default Strange sound issue

Hi all I've looked about for an answer to this but can't find any clues as to the cause, basically my engine sound is only playing when I look in the direction of the back of the sub, like when I'm in command room I have to look back towards the hatch to hear engine sound, when I'm on the conning tower it's the same, I can't hear it when I have the map up for example, this never used to happen before.

I'm not sure if my fiddling with .cfg files I accidentally changed a value or if it's the fact I've rebuilt a new PC (I think when I first re-installed Sh3 the engine sounds were pervasive like before, I can't be certain though)

The thing is I'm used to having the diesels roaring all the time when I'm playing this game, and now that they've gone partially missing I'm finding it a huge immersion breaker, all I hear is the sound of water when I'm looking through periscope forward and it's annoying not being able to hear the engine state.

Any ideas what could have caused this?

Its caused by your sound settings it probably defaulted to
7.1 surround sound but if you are using only stereo speakers
you will have no engine sound unless you look towards the back of the sub
just change the settings to stereo.

"like when I'm in command room I have to look back towards the hatch to hear engine sound"

If this is not an issue then Seawolf is right

Yep you were right, no idea what caused my speaker setup to change to 'quadrophonic' settings rather than desktop speaker setup, thanks for the help!

Hey I don't suppose you know why my speaker setup keeps resetting to 'quodrophonic' every time I restart the PC or leave it idle for a few hours? each time I play sh3 I need to open audio settings and reset the speakers to stereo desktop, very strange that it keeps defaulting to an odd setup like this.

Ok if you turn off the speakers when shutting down the computer
and the start the computer without turning the speakers back on first
your computer will detect that there is no speakers to use at the time
of boot-up and default back to set-up settings .
Although it should detect them when you turn them on

OR you have forgotten to click the "Set Default" button when
the speaker option is highlighted

Yeah that fixed it, although after removing the sound card from hardware list it reinstalled with old drivers and I had the same issue despite appearing fixed, I downloaded and installed newer drivers and the problem seems fixed, thanks for the help.

Ps: I dunno if this is a bug too but in my latest campaign after every mission I get 3 uboat clasps, 2 iron cross second class and 1 iron cross first class, despite often sinking 50,000 tonnes, I remember I used to get waaaaaaay more medals last time I played a campaign, any idea why this is happening?
