In the real world i think destroyers used to use charges whenever they got positive/suspected id on a boat, for example they see a u-boat stalking the convoy force it to dive then work the area over with charges to try and score a direct hit( rare i think) or cause so much damage that the boat is forced to surface.
Ingame id expect splashes whenever a enemy is pinging away with asdic, if they suspect youre there i think they will use charges, but i am not 100% sure since i only play sh5 a short time. |
