Default The World in 2025?

Some predictions to ponder aimed at the world in 2025.

Of particular interest to those navalists out there is "The South China Sea is the Future of Conflict" by journalist Robert Kaplan.

http://www.foreignpolicy.com/the_future_issue

Controversial ideas to be sure; accurately predicting the future is like herding cats, far easier to say than to do. The past record of journalistic prognostication has been appallingly bad with no reason to think that these nine essays will do any better.

I know what you mean. This 1991 dud from George Friedman comes to mind.

At the time the book based its argument on the idea that the geo-political situation of the 1990s would be similar to the 1930s encouraging similar economic-military expansionism in Japan. What actually happened was that Japan entered a huge slump in the early 1990s that is still referred to today as the ‘lost decade’. While fully referenced and researched the book completely misunderstands the lessons of the past and misapplies them to the future. As an academic Friedman should have known better than this.

Have found Friedman a bit ripe. Having been wrong about a new Japanese-American war he has again set his sights on predicting the future with The Next 100-Years: A Forecast for the 21st Century:

I predict one would find that latest book a waste of money...

At least Clancy worked it so that the economic slump caused the war with Japan.
