Bashing E.P.A. Is New Theme in G.O.P. Race

Representative Michele Bachmann says the E.P.A. should be called the “job-killing organization of America.

WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency is emerging as a favorite target of the Republican presidential candidates, who portray it as the very symbol of a heavy-handed regulatory agenda imposed by the Obama administration that they say is strangling the economy.

Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota wants to padlock the E.P.A.’s doors, as does former Speaker Newt Gingrich. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas wants to impose an immediate moratorium on environmental regulation.

Representative Ron Paul of Texas wants environmental disputes settled by the states or the courts. Herman Cain, a businessman, wants to put many environmental regulations in the hands of an independent commission that includes oil and gas executives. Jon M. Huntsman Jr., the former Utah governor, thinks most new environmental regulations should be shelved until the economy improves.

Only Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, has a kind word for the E.P.A., and that is qualified by his opposition to proposed regulation of carbon dioxide and other gases that contribute to global warming.

I have spoken directly with someone in congress about the need for asssitance in preventing a whole community from sliding off into a bay. Just got shinned on with the same crap about how the EPA was the great evil keeping anything from getting done. Of course while thats being said USACE is building up an island from a 1 acre area of swamp to 1100 acres 27 feet above sea level just to the north of us costing the tax payer 400,000,000 for a bird sanctuary. Not to mention millions of taxpayer monies for beach reclamation to the south for tourists.

EPA is causing what problems? What a load of B.S. this is just the usual talking points leading up to an election season. They just putting out the feelers seeing what's important enough to complain about.

Glad I wasn't the only one noticed that. It is the NY Times, though; they're sore that Newsweek got all the attention for that recent cover image, and trying to catch up.

I don't particularly like Mme. Bachmann, but I truly loathe the pathetic manipulaton attempt by the NY Times here. Sadly, it's also likely to work on many of their readers.

That is her Hallelujah pose which probably should scare people more.
The complaint August makes is rather like the Bachmann complaint that a photo on magazine made her look crazy....yet the article carried some of her own views and policies so a photo wasn't exactly going to make her look any crazier than shwe does herself.

I am so torn over the EPA. I've seen their abuses and powergrabs of the last couple decades, but have also seen the wonderful results of their early efforts as well.

Like every other aspect of government, they've gotten so big and cumbersome and invasive, they've no longer a clear picture of who it is they're actually supposed to serve.
