Default It will cost you money to ask a question!

When I read this, I about puked! If these political types can't take the heat when asked questions , then get out of politics!
*** Pay-per-view representatives? If members of Congress’ approval ratings weren’t low enough, how’s this going to go over? Several members of Congress are charging constituents to ask questions, Politico reports. For Paul Ryan (R-WI), who took lots of criticism for his budget which would partially privatize Medicare, it’ll cost you $15; Chip Cravaack (R-MN) $10; Ben Quayle (R-AZ) $35. They’re not holding face-to-face town halls during their August recess. “By outsourcing the events to third parties that charge an entry fee to raise money, members of Congress can eliminate most of the riffraff while still – in some cases – allowing in reporters and TV cameras for a positive local news story,” Politico writes. The fees go to event organizers, who provide refreshments. Sure, they say they’re holding “office hours,” but seriously, this is democracy? Running from questions from the people who put you in office, unless they pay a fee?

I think that a clarification may be in order, The story that was linked to also contained the following passage:

Quote:
Seifert added that Ryan has nothing to do with the Whitnall Park Rotary Club's decision to charge $15 for admissiona [sic] fee that will pay for the catered lunch of meat and potatoes the group will provide, club president Kent Bieganski told POLITICO.

"It's not something our office can control," Seifert said.

Pastor Larry Meyers, the club's webmaster, said about 50 people have registered online and paid the $15 for the Ryan event. He said the club's catering hall can serve as many as 250 people and will not admit people who do not pre-register and pay the $15 fee.
So, Representative Ryan is not charging $15, the Rotary Club is, and is providing lunch. Whether we believe our representatives are scum-sucking dirt-bag opportunists or pinnacles of moral and civic virtue, we owe it to ourselves to remain fair to the facts.

There was a time when you could talk to the President just by going to the White House and handing over your business card.

Terrible, horrible behavior. Like $2000 a plate dinners, distributing "approved" questions before the event, etc.

The above article does more to reveal the bias of the author than anything else.

Methinks he dost protest over-much.

Was there ever a time when a President should be concerned with his life since say...the Lincoln Presidency? Waltzing into the White House does not happen anymore.

You can talk with President Obama at town hall meetings Just raise your hand.

Why yes, yes you did. Thank you for pointing out the error. I admit it was a bit judgemental, and I regret that.

People, people. Calm yourselves.

All is well children.

For this shall be the beginning of their demise. For not only does this hamper their reputation, but, honestly, who wants to pay 15 dollars to hear someone lie themselves into a coma?

I mean, its not like its a get-rich quick seminar or evangelical nightmare. Its a bunch of old congressman and representatives. Who really gives a good god dam what they have to say. theyre just talking for the sake of talking (and perhaps advancing their political power). Let them, by all means, make an ass of themselves by hosting a debate meeting. then, if anyone shows up, itll allow us to see how many morons it takes to make a man a congressman.
