Upgraded my compys hardware but I need some advise.
Hello everyone,
I recently upgraded my computers motherboard/CPU/PSU/video card, now the hard drives and the CD drive are from my old system. The issue that I'm currently having is my CD Drive being from an older system might be incompatible with the new motherboard (an ASUS Crosshair V Formula Motherboard) but this motherboard has no slots for the IDE 40pin Ribbon that connects the CD drive to the motherboard. The questions are: Should I buy a new CD drive or can I use a SATA to IDE adaptor? If I where to use a SATA to IDE adaptor would I need a new hard drive?

I'd spring for a new Hard drive.
![]() Then go to Amazon via SubSim and get best price and maybe Free Shipping. ![]() ![]() With that very nice Mobo and all the other new hardware it, deserves a Sata hard drive. Holy Jebuzz !!! Don't cut corners now especially when their all on sale. ![]() Last edited by FIREWALL; 08-12-11 at 07:12 PM. |

I've got two 500GB SATA hard drives(from the old system) already to be honest, tryed them both with the SATA to IDE adaptor but that justs removes them from the SATA list in the BIOS program for some reason. Oh and Firewall 99% of my computer hardware is from Newegg

I think you'll have it together tomorrow with a
![]() Just relax and follow the basic first time build basics. 1. Wrist style ground strap 2. Don't over tighten any thing. 3. Relax and take your time. And it appears you have Kptlt. Hellmut Neuerburg ![]() ![]() |

A PCI(E) to IDE adapter could solve the problem:
![]() That way you have the best chances of compatibility with some older HDDs / drives |

Ok so I went to Best Buy and got a new CD/DVD Drive and it works. Now a new issue has come up and is one that I didn't expect. Apperently my Digital Rights Management(DRM) data has gone missing and without it I cannot play any of my music as a result. Would a re-install of the OS software solve the problem or is there another way of restoring the DRM data?
