Last night I ran in to the Ark Royal Aircraft Carrier with 6/7 Destroyers for support.
Long story short I was badly placed when I sank her and obviously the destroyers came charging. I was already in silent running mode but after lunching my torps I went to 90 mtrs and double knuckled to port. After about 2 hours the destroyers were still circling me, I'm in the Type A? so don't have decoys/or don't work I'm not sure. How can I loose the Destroyers?? ![]() ![]() |

When you sunk the carrier, the mission of the destroyers does not end like that in real life. Destroyers main purpose is to hunt and kill submarines. The best advice is for you to try all measures to evade them or kill them if you are able to do so.

? That doesn't really help me, obviously there not going to stop hunting me after I've sunk there carrier. What I'm asking is what tactics are there to loose the destroyers. ![]() |

Depending upon what mods you are using,...
Off the top of my head, I'd say get as deep as you can. Type A can do 150 meters but will slowly sink (depending on mod). When I was in the evade situation, I put the sub at 150 meters and "minimum speed ahead". The sub wants to sink to 155 meters and more but I set the depth to 100 meters and the crew managed to hold the depth at 155 but very slowly climbing back to 100. Waves were at medium and September of '39. So that may have helped quite a bit. Generally, you want to pay close attention to what is right above you. When you hear the splashes, ahead flank with maybe a light turn then coast away after you get to 6 knots or so. The sub doesn't coast far enough in my opinion. It feels like were are submerged in syrup or something. Then sneak away towards deeper water when possible. Also if you have plenty of oxygen left and you have managed to sneak away a bit from where the destroyers are dropping, then try just sitting very quiet and out wait them. However, at 150 meters you almost HAVE to have some forward speed to keep the boat from sinking further. If you can find a magic depth that the crew can keep you at, you can set a certain speed like 0.5 knots to stay very quiet and still sneak away. I have found that time compression is your enemy in these desperate hunts. It may take many hours to get away. But these really are the best times of the game anyway, so just try to enjoy it while it lasts. |

Thanks Bothersome,
I will try that tonight, I do have hull damage so I think 150 may be out of reach I'm comfortable at 90mtrs with silent running @ 1 knot. But I just cant seem to shake them they somehow manage to ping me and depth charge me quite accurately. |

Are you running the IRAI mod, getting away can be difficult sometimes impossible.
