I have been pondering for bit between Victoria II and Pride of Nations and scanned the Paradox forums and though a few bucks more I went with Victoria II over Pride of Nations.
From what I gathered they seem somewhat similar though some said that PON turn interface is very lengthy and makes the game progress a bit slowly and that certain aspects of management where poorly done like things that should be more automatic being manual. I went with Vic II because it has a longer time span than PON(and I am interested in this era so more time is better) and seemed to have a more popular interface also I saw more complaints about PON being buggy. Dose anyone have both Pride of Nations and Victoria II?I am curious to find out what is different between the two or if they are more or less similar. |

Hmm, let's see. Both games are similar in scope and purpose, but they're different in execution. If I was to list the advantages and disadvantages of each game...
Pride of Nations has a more realistic military system, it handles a few other areas much better (Such as crisis resolution and colonization), is generally more historically accurate (But as a result less dynamic) and has battle scenarios besides the main campaign. However, it is rather buggy (It was just released, of course, it will get patched) and the turn resolution times are annoyingly long, especially since the Grand Campaign is some 1680 turns long. Victoria II, on the other hand, has a more detailed political and economic system, is more dynamic (And therefore less accurate), generally less buggy (For now) and has a better interface. It's also getting an expansion soon.

I think that you can alter the endates (if it is similar to HOI3...) of either game as well so that should be a non factor.
If you wouldn't mind, could you post a few screenies of your Vic2 game? I've heard good things about it on the Paradox forums but can't really imagine the game play atm ![]() Cheers! Krauter

Ah I made the right choice Vic2 is more like Europa Universalis but with a bit more detail in most respects the military seems similar though more military force focused rather than smaller war time only EU armies.
I thought I read some place that with PON or Vic2 that you could build your nation up to the end date and carry the save file and world data over to Hearts of Iron III or maybe I just imagined that? It looks pretty nice much like EUIII Chronicles but more uh Victorian map wise and it has more things to adjust inside your nation and a better interface. Also the music is nice as well.I can see myself messing around with this game for a long time clearly much can be done with even a smaller nation like Japan. And the pace is like EUIII which I like you can sit down a manage you nation for 20 minutes or 4 hours a good game to play when you only have a short time span to play with or lots of spare time it is like growing plants half the fun is taking time to watch it grow. Here are some shots from the tutorial and game mode as Japan they are 800x600 I reduced them down from 1680x1050: ![]() ![]() the budget and politics tabs ![]() ![]() ![]() Resign game info ![]() Last edited by Stealhead; 06-29-11 at 11:01 PM. |

Looks cool? Does the map have an option for counters similar to HOI3? I wonder what system they'd use...
Nice screenies thanks ![]()

Victoria I or Victoria II(can't remember which exact game) lets you carry your save files over to HoI2+Arma.
Would like a Victoria III to work with HoI3. I'd like a Victoria III with some of HoI's functions and an updated UI.

Sadly Victoria II uses only the little soldier things.

Bleh... I don't like the look of those haha.
But what is cool,is porting your saves over to HOI2 (and hopefully over to HOI3). Kind of lets you raise your nation and prepare it for the Great Depression and then hand out an arse kicking in the Second World War.

While that is a great idea it very seldom works well. I tried that once but Germany didn't invade Poland and kick off ww2.

It would probably work better with the Clausewitz engine games, though, since they are designed to be much more dynamic, so I hope they try to implement this feature once CK2 is out.

Well I tried a demo for PON and I must say that I just really do not like the AGEOM or what ever it is called game engine so I am glad I did not buy the full game.I tried another game that uses the same engine "Revolution Under Fire"(or Siege not sure) where you play during the Russian Civil War and I just do not like that game engine.

Am quite enjoying PON but then we like what we like because we like it. It is an extremely deep and nuanced game with a steep learning curve and certainly not for all tastes.
The economic aspects are complicated and take a lot of getting used to while the crisis modelling and colonizing engine are outstanding. I binned Vicky II largely due to the exclusive use of sprites. |

I did not like that game engine and the Revolution Under Fire game I tried the demo first and it had a crappy tutorial and I found the interface clunky compared to the one that EUIII,HOI3,and VicII uses I just like that interface better.I do agree with you on the sprites thing you cant change it in EUIII or VicII and I dont like them very much either but as a whole I like the game engine interface better also by three games using the same basic interface I dont have to change as much when playing one or the other.(not to say that they play the same by any means)
After I get bored of VicII I might try out PON that is the other issue though they are different in some respects they seem similar enough that if you have one it makes no sense to be playing the other at the same time.I ike the deeper depth of PON but not the interface. |
