Default A quick JSGME question

Hi folks,

I can't remember if this is possible. I have 5 installs of SH3 currently, various super mods for testing etc., I am also fast running out of hard drive space. What I'd like to ask is is it popssible to have one "mods" folder install and point each install of JSGME to it?. This way I could save a ton of hard drive space not having to have a mods folder in each game folder. I'm also going to install GWX3 again so that I can have one folder for "gaming" if I ever feel inclined and one for modding as I'm sick of screwing up my campaign save games when testing mods. I'm guessing that the path to the mods folder is a setting in JSGME's config/ini file or suchlike, i'm not at home at present so can't check.

I also received my copy of the u-boat missions add-on for SH-4 today so I might finally get to open the wrapper on my SH4 disc and install it after all this time, it has been sitting on my shelf since the game came out .

Kind regards

Aces

I dunno, my experience with JSGME is, whatever folder (i.e. game installation) you are telling it to work with at any given time, if there is not already a MODS subfolder there it will just create one and look for available mods in that folder only. So it seems to want a MODS folder specific to whatever directory it's currently enabling/disabling stuff in.

Now whether that's something that can be changed within JSGME itself, is a good question. I'd be interested in the possibility as well.

Hiya,

It lokks as if the answer is no. I downloaded the latest version and installed it and tried changing the path to the "Mods" folder but it only looks in the root directory of the game or errors. That's a pity as I really don't want to duplicate all my mods again as it just unnecessarily wastes disk space.

Regards

I just installed mine as well and took it out for a patrol yesterday.

So far mixed reviews... It looks great but it certainly lacks the 'gritty feel' of SH3.

I've had it since the 'Gold' version came out, and I disagree. I love the way it looks when running OM (I hate the stock Pacific u-boat campaign), and I really love the whole 'Battle Stations' thing. My only complaint is the lack of mods that SH3 has - the harbors, locks, LSH3 bridges, GWX blimps...all the little things that add so much to the feel. Other than those I prefer SH4's feel, even in the Atlantic.

I'm with you there...

Heading out from a deserted port makes you 'feel' like you're playing a sterile sim. I guess the band had a previous engagement and the nurses are too busy emptying bedpans?

Actually the band is not a problem. Ducimus figured out how to bring the dockside people back, and used it in his IX-D-2 mod. I think at one point he explained how to do it, but I've forgotten. I'll try to remember to look through the notes I've made - I may have it there.

IIRC it's a very simple process involving 2-for-1 appetizers during happy hour, and not letting the band play any Wagner.

Thanks for digging it up Steve, greatly appreciated!

Edit: Interesting that SH4 still calls the port characters from the non-existent data files. Will be taking a good look into this one. Thanks again!
