I bought SH5 just 2 days ago from Steam because I read here it only needs to connect to Ubiplay on start up of the game now, which I can grudgingly live with. But all is not right in Ubiplay la-la-land. Ubiplay stops me from being able to disco my internet connection using the shortcut I created to my lan connection. Windows comes up with an error when I try to do so which gives me some malarkey about an app or someone logged onto another account that prevents it. No other game or app has ever had that behavior. That makes Ubiplay a security breach which by definition makes it malware.

Every time I run SH5 Steam claims it is the first run and attempts to install an update to .Net2. I even tried setting the SH5 exec to admin mode thinking that would stop it on subsequent runs but no. Another issue is that the game keeps informing me that saves will be saved to the server when I first enter the game even though I turned that option off in the Ubiplay server settings. The game also brings up all the flashing tutorial icons every time I first start any mission no matter if I have already read them or not. Is that normal behavior of the game?

I deal with that every time I run the game as well. Minor things we probably can't get around because of steam.

But I have no such issue with any other game on Steam and I have 65 Steam games. I point my finger at Ubisoft being too lazy and cheap to fix it.

Um, Steam version of SH5 comes with Ubiplay and I am not mixing anything up. I have to login to Ubilay to run SH5 but people said it just needs to authenticate at start up and does not require a constant connection.
Not true, it may not require constant connection to their server but it stops one from being able to disco from the internet. Steam will ask if you want to play in offline mode if you disco from the internet. It is Ubiplay that is at issue here and not Steam. That means one is forced to leave their IC open when playing SH5 so so much for their crap DRM not being obtrusive anymore as some claimed. I bet most of you leave your IC open 24/7 so wouldn't even notice what I found out within 3 hours of playing SH5. |

I played world of warcraft for 5+ years, at least 6/hours/day. Never my account was stolen or anything bad. Do you have prove that Ubi hacked your account in just a few months? Dont get me wrong.. I still consider drm being something stupid for a single play game.

It's not about whether I got hacked or not, it is about what a "game" company can do or not on *my* PC with software they have no legal right to tamper with. |

We have gone 'round and 'round on this sort of thing time and time again. What it always comes down to is that if one does not like system X, one should not use any of the games using system X. Fair, simple and nobody gets mad.

Sorry, but I don't like being treated like a nub. I tested Ubiplay again yesterday and my observation is correct, Ubiplay forces your IC to stay open so long as it is running. Nothing should be allowed to do that because it is actually hijacking a security option in Win7 and that is the exact kind of behavior a malicious worm would use. It's tantamount to the Sony rootkit DRM that used a malicious method for DRM. Anyway, I will take it up with Ubisoft themselves and give them some stick. |
