Vote 2011: Tories ruthless and calculating, says Cable
Vince Cable has attacked the Lib Dems' Tory coalition partners as "ruthless, calculating and very tribal" but insisted their alliance would continue.
The business secretary's party suffered huge losses in Thursday's elections and were defeated in the vote on changing the electoral system. He told the BBC the government's "overwhelming priority" was still to resolve the UK's economic problems. Tory Home Secretary Theresa May said the parties would still work together. Thursday's referendum on changing the way Britain elects MPs was a key concession secured by the Liberal Democrats as the price of forming a coalition government with the Conservatives a year ago. But the overwhelming rejection of change by voters in only the second ever UK-wide referendum potentially marks a new phase in the relationship between the two parties. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-13320029 Note: 7 May 2011 Last updated at 09:25 GMT

Nick Clegg said...AV is a grubby little compromise.
So why bother having the referendum then? I knew the country would reject it...41% of the voters who made the effort to go a cast there vote is a poor showing, and people bitch on about how can a party win power on such a poor showing. Simple if your not going to get off your big fat arse and vote this is what happens you arseholes.

If Ed Milliband thinks this is the road back to power he is very wrong about that. Labour picked up most of there votes from thumping mad Liberal supporters and off the other small party's. The conservatives or so went up by a modest amount, any how has he over looked Scotland? The SNP controls the Scottish Parliament now and gave Labour a damn good thumping at the ballot box.

Must admit I enjoyed the drubbing...a little payback for the party that lied to the electorate and got into power (you could say) with the lowest number of parliamentary seats ever.
I should imagine youn Nick is feeling a tad uncomfortable regarding his leadership if the Lib Dems right now. |
