Default Teenagers seem more conservative than expected

Prime Minister Stephen Harper remains a winner with Canada’s high school students.

In a mock election, half-a-million young Canadians voted in a Conservative minority government with the official opposition going to the New Democratic Party.

Across the nation, 512,175 ballots from 3,416 high schools in 299 electoral districts were cast.

This is the third time Canada’s students have voted for Harper.

And, this is the fourth federal election put on by the national, non-profit group Student Vote, said communications director Katie Reidel. She was a high school student during the first student election in 2003.

“There is a belief students are much more left than their adult counterparts but that doesn’t appear to be true,” she said from Toronto. “The students, surprisingly, tend to predict the actual outcome.”

My experience in high school was that the left-leaning ones usually tend to be louder and wear their politics on their sleeves more than the right-leaning ones. But they break down like the rest of the population.

It's worse up in Michigan. I blame 911. right when we were growing up that happened. The Freedom Fries era poisoned a lot of young minds

also, In my school the loud ones where the conservatives.

I was "Ultra Conservative Radical" by liberal standards.

I made people know it. I wore a T shirt with the most relevant Republican politician, completely covered in buttons, a hat with their name on it (also completely covered in buttons), and miniature American flag sticking out of the back of my hat.

Needless to say, I sounded like the tin man walking down the hall

I got my picture taken a lot, and on the class trip to Washington DC other tourists actually got in pictures with me in front of monuments and things

Looking back, it was really dumb - but I had a damn good time doing it, especially with those other tourists in DC and their camera shots haha

Lesson from that: have fun while you can in whatever way you can - you won't have that body forever.

Must say I'm mildly surprised by this, although I think it's quite healthy when political tides ebb and swell. Good on the kids for participating!

Politics are much different in Canada, you can't compare liberal and conservative to the way we view it. We would probably consider their conservatives moderate to liberal if they were here.

True, im sure their "conservatives" are nothing like our Right. If a republican party like here was established there they'd be considered Fascists

I actually just turned 20, and I've never been a fan of either political party, and have no political stand on anything.

I'm entirely independent.

now, if you excuse me, I'll be in the woods.

Pull up a stump, there's plenty of room.
