Default Music tracks not all playing

I posted this in the bug thread but I don't think that gets a lot of traffic.

Is it just me or does the game not use all the music files that are in the music folder? I converted some of them to mp3 to have a listen and I swear I haven't heard like 75% of them in game. A lot of good thematic music there if you take a listen.

The game seems to latch on to a few of them and play them over and over. Is this just my imagination?

Does anyone know how to edit the music.text file to make the game play through all the many different theme music? There are some great tracks in there but the game doesn't use but 3 or 4 of them.

yep, that thread was pretty much for when the game came out, now its just more of an interesting read but few post and even fewer respond there anymore

i cant speak for sure but many times with all the silent hunter games the sound files have had issues playing as they should or working only when they want to.

its also any added files can have issues if they arent of the correct length, a few seconds too short or too long can make some of them not work.

also the condition of your boat can effect it because different files are used for talking loud, talking niormal, or whispering so something as simple as oing to silent running might make a file that doesnt work be called upon and you get nothing

hope that explains the generalities of some common issues involving sounds and voices

Thanks Webster. I'm talking mostly about the Music folder inside the sounds folder, not speech files.

You really should have a listen to all the music tracks in that folder. Some really epic stuff. You just need an ogg converter and convert them to something you can listen to (wav or mp3). Anyway, upon further investigation I've determined that the game isn't using ANY OF THESE SONGS. They are great soundtracks for all situations in the game. Why would Ubisoft not.....nevermind, not going down that road.

In SH4 I was able to add tracks and change up the songs that the game called upon for different situations (normal, battle, tension, high tension, etc). SH5 even has a set of music that is supposed to play when you get depth charged. But from my experience in my game it plays the same two or three tracks over and over. It plays the same song when you are on patrol and as soon as a ship is sighted it plays a more high stress sounds song but THAT'S IT. I can't even find these two songs in the music folder which means the game is likely pulling them from somewhere else and the music tracks in the music folder are there for nothing...

HOw can I get the game to play all these? If I figure it out I'd like to release a mod so everyone can enjoy it. Really a shame.

This is really bugging me. Anybody know how to make the game play all the tracks in the data/sound/music folder?

there is a file in the sound folder that tells the game when to use and where to find sounds for animations and other automated things so look for that

i think it was an sdl file you open with windows notepad

I'll check that. I wasn't aware the sdl file controlled music. The music.text file in the data/sounds/music folder has all the music listed for all the game states but I'm 99% sure the game isn't using ANY of these music files.

Well, still can't figure it out. But there are over 60 music tracks in the music folder with great thematic music that the game doesn't use at all. It's pulling the music from some other place but I can't find where. ANyone know what other folders would hold the music files?

Maybe I'm the only one who actually likes the thematic music in the game.

I use this program to convert the ogg to mp3 to listen to them

http://www.xilisoft.com/audio-converter.html

Once you've converted them, tell me if you've ever heard any of these songs in the game. I haven't and I can't figure out how to make the game play them.

Would you agree that the game doesn't use any of these files? The songs I hear in game are being pulled from somewhere else in the data folder but I can't figure out where and I can't figure out how to make the game use the files in the data/sound/music folder.

yes I have heard the victory clip and the menu, but I never hear tensionand the joy clips.they probably threw them all in the game and never got around to enable them correctly [along with a lot of other things]
