Perhaps the black thick line will be shortened slightly in the attack periscope. At night it can be hard to see the bearing scale exactly

I second that. Having dust/scratches on the lenses is matter of taste (personally I don't disdain some degree of weather on my optics), but scope lenses without some degree of vignetting are matter-of-factly unrealistic.

I agree and recommend "Larger optics to TDW UI". It seems to work fine to WOS

Is this what you mean with a ring of dirt around the optic !



It doesn't look to bad in daylight but I think it will look terrible at night, this is how bad it is with the scope down.

That's not "a ring of dirt", but the gradual decrease of the light tramsmitted from a group of lenses, going from the center of the optic to the edges. In optics it is called vignetting. Normally this is barely noticeable, but all the original pictures of WWII scope views show this phenomenon to some degree.

Mutch better, but you can judge yourself from some original pictures. You can google "u-boat periscope view", but be careful: most of the pictures you get from there are just reconstructions, or game screenies
