Default Finding out renown for sunken ships

1st, it's been a long time and glad to see the subsimming community is still going strong.

2nd, I want to be able to look in one of the files, it's either in program files or the C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\My Documents\SH3\data\cfg path to find out what renown I got for each ship I sank. Would it be in the "Patrols_0.cfg" file AFTER I come into port?

I know there is a renown chart and I know how to mod renown, but I want to see it on the back end as I know renown reflects your realism settings too. I searched for how to find out what renown I got for each ship and cant find anything. I did this 3 years ago, have forgotten it since and is driving me mad. Thanks.

I'm not sure the game breaks it down that way - I think it just keeps a running total until you finish a patrol, and then at the end the total is all you get.

If you are playing GWX, there is a renown chart for that which will show you the renown per ship.

But you are correct that realism affects renown, to get the full maximum renown you have to play at 100% realism.

I think though that if you go into your data\Sea folder and open the folder for each ship there, and look in its .cfg file, it will give you a number for RenownAwarded for that particular ship. But a breakdown by the game of renown per ship for a particular patrol? I don't think it will give you that, you'd have to keep track of it yourself once you have a list of every ship's renown value.

Thanks, Frau Kaleun.

I think I may have figured it out. This is assuming I want to find the value of a medium cargo.

I found in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Sea\EnglishName s.cfg
the ship types and what label they go by. For example: LLS=Medium Cargo.

So, I look in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Sea\NLLS_\NLLS_ .cfg and find

ClassName=LLS
UnitType=102
MaxSpeed=15.5
Length=140.5
Width=19.5
Mast=25.6
Draft=9.2
Displacement=4850
RenownAwarded=190.

I play at 87% realism so I would say 190 x .87 = 165.3 and that would be my renown value. If I am way offbase here, let me know and I will thank you. But I think it's all coming back now.

There is a slight error in your calculations, for sinking a ship worth 190 in renown at 87% realism the game would award you 171.475 in renown.

Why's that Nemo? I've long suspected there must be a "base" credit for any vessel sunk, with additional renown on top... is that what you are referring to?

Yes sort of, if you play at 0% realism you still earn renown credit. For the example given, a ship worth 190 would earn 47.5 in renown if you played at 0% realism. I've done a simple spreadsheet in Excel that works it out for you. I forget the actual maths behind it now, but if I remember correctly the "base" credit is 25% of total renown.

If I remember, the formula was something like this:

Renown Earned = ((0.75*RenownAwarded)*Realism%)+(0.25*RenownAwarde d)

RenownAwarded is from the cfg file.

Thank you both for clearing that up! Makes a lot of sense from a game design point of view.

desirableroasted, captain nemo and derrinurban,

Thanks for clearing all that up. I have what I need now.

My gf, who would know about the SH3 stock bug right?, saved the game while I was out and the boat was submerged. Didnt do the death dive, but I didnt get credit for the medium cargo. I did here the "yay" from the crewman, did not see the sunk ship in the log, but also, that ship is no longer in convoy.

I will give myself credit for that one, chocking it up to buggy wierdness from underwater saves. Everyone in the house knows just to hit ctrl-atl-del to minimize the game if we need to use the 'puter.
