Obama, Searching for a Vision

Above the fray, President Obama struggles to define liberalism in an era of debt and division.

WASHINGTON — When President Obama emerged from spending talks last Thursday night, he went before cameras to insist that an agreement was needed to avoid a government shutdown that he warned would damage the country. What he did not do was make a public case for what should be in the agreement itself.

Well, he ain't got long to find it before he's out of a job and hailed as the 21st centurys Peanut farmer. All the Republicans have got to do is not to elect a complete lunatic. Palin, I'm looking at you.
Put a clever guy up there who doesn't rely on scaring everyone to get votes, and Obama will be history.

EDIT: Although credit to Carter, I didn't realise he was a nuc. He's certainly done a lot post-presidency though, so I have no criticism on him there.

IMHO he was one of the greatest men to hold the post, and did one of the worst jobs there.

Im not about the Republican's winning back the whitehouse... im about anyone except BO winning it.

our debt is about to outpace our GDP.

Our budget deficit is massive and while everyone complains about the budget... nobody seems to want to reign in government spending.

Our military is nearing its 10th year of combat deployment in the war on terror.

Some politician is probably going to have to sacrifice their career to save this ship, and unfortunately i dont think there is a single officer aboard the boat willing to do that at the moment.

Politician's convictions are as solid as modelling clay, and their visions stretch from here to the next elections, and many of them mistake lobbies for the electorate.

That's a bit gratuitous isn't it?

I'd have said as solid as the absolute void myself.

That pretty much sums it up.
But, I would add any who actually do put forth a constructive proposal to fix things (i.e. cut spending), are attacked as extremists.

It's not a sure thing by any means. When you add up the black vote, the hard left, those who are dependent on gov't programs and those who work for the gov't., you are at 40% or so of the electorate. He would then only need 10 to 20% of the remainder to be reelcted. Since there are many moderates who are very "squishy", and the press will support Obama 100%, this is quite possible.(GULP!)

Hmmm, you do make a good point. I guess it also depends on who runs in the Dem primaries.
As incumbent can Obama lose the Democratic primaries?

I don't think Obama can lose in the primary. This would require a political earthquake of incredible magnatude. Possibly, he could be challlanged, in a significant way, which might weaken him, but this is not likely, IMO.
