Never was a fan of voice control in video games, mostly because in socom i had to repeat what i wanted my men to do a good seventy times before they actually understood me.

This looks impressive though, he never had to repeat himself, and he didn't have to talk like a robot for the crew to understand him. If I ever see it as a mod or something I'd probably give it a shot.

I tried voice commands for one patrol. However the novelty of it all soon wore off for me, so I went back to normal point and click mouse control which for SH3 I find quicker and easier.

Hi King_Zog
Do you happen to know the mod for this or how it can be done?

I know there's a pretty decent thread about this somewhere.

I used this free appilication:

Shoot 1.6.4
http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/

If you want to run it on Vista (or Windows 7) follow the link to download the cfg file for NET 2.0 that's on the main page.

PS All though it wasn't for me, yelling ALAAARRRRM and then having your boat crash dive is pretty cool

Even if it was perfect I couldn't use it. I live in an apartment, and yelling anything is a bad idea. I even use headphones instead of speakers.

Hahaha, actually you are not supposed to yell, as it confuses the voice recognition software, but sometimes I just couldn't resist!

On one of the Youtube pages (could also be his Klingon Academy Let's Play) he mentions it is done with VAC (http://www.dwvac.com/) On that site is a profiles page with a download for SH3. No experience with it myself.

Was never a huge fan of voice commands myself, but games like SH3 practically beg for it.

VAC is the program. It's not free, but it doesn't require any voice training. I also like the fact that it allows multiple phrase variants per command, so saying "Crash Dive" or "Emergency Dive" will still point to the same thing.

It's not perfect. You can't order exact numerical depth/speed. I've had to repeat things on occasion, but that's rare. The main drawback is human error. Sometimes I forget the phrase or the push-to-talk key. No doubt this will go away with time and practice.

Check out Chapter 23 of my LP if you want to see this system shine. I found it very convenient in concert with deck gun attacks.

After reading this thread I went and tried a couple programs. The only one I could make work is VAC and it has a preset profile for sh3

It's actually pretty cool, just have to clear some little problems.... I had a destroyer in a ramming run while I was at periscope depth and said "back emergency" it responded "yes sir! blow ballast"

You can imagine the result.

The program understood "surface emergency"... I changed it to "blow ballast".

Sounds like the crew has a death wish...

I'm not feeling adventurous, so I'll probably stick with the old fashioned way until they work the bugs out...

Dead they are

The good thing about VAC is that you can say anything you want for a command.

If you wanna say "to the deep you go" for fire torpedo you can do it....

Anyway, sounds like im advertising VAC and I didnt even pay for it yet.
