That's CV, the Varyag isn't a nuclear carrier (At least, not as she was designed...).

Yes she is a conventional carrier, they have tested her gas turbines already, and I highly doubt they crammed a reactor in to her during the refit.

Be about time the Shi Lang got out of port, they've been itching to get her to sea for a few years now. Following that...well...it will be interesting to see where they go with carrier design. Follow the Russian ramp design? Or go for a long deck? Given that they have stol-erm-imported a lot of their designs from Russia up until recently, I'd have personally said ramp...however since they have recently been 'importing' US designs, they could equally go for a long deck and make F-18 clones.

It is just a training CV, they are producing conventional and nuclear prototypes allready but need something to get their pilots and sailors out to sea.

That's what the article said. Probably eventually be fitted with a cat, so they can test they're newer flight systems.

Sorry, didnt read it that well.
Im interested if they sail it to Burma and test the port there, the medium CVs they are planning might be intented to be based there also.

They'll need plenty of training to get enough crew for any new carriers they wish to build. It it still will take them years to get an efficient crew ready to operational tempo.
