Default Most Terrifying Car Accident Ever!

That has been recorded:

Despite suggestions it may have been a prank, the clip of a plank flying into a car's windscreen on a North Carolina highway has been revealed to be no joke.
Wendy Cobb yesterday told auto blog Jalopnik she was filming two vehicles playing a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse on her camera phone with the intention of sending the footage to the companies that own the trucks.
Then suddenly a plank of wood crashed through her windshield.
"The two-by-four was in the road, along with several others, but when the truck in front of me hit it, and then his trailer hit it, it just propelled it into me," Ms Cobb said.

"I don't know why I didn't scream or cuss or cry, I guess just pure shock.
"I could barely form words to call 911.
As the accident occurred last Friday - April 1 - many people assumed the video was an April Fools' Day prank, but police have since verified Ms Cobb's story.
No one was hurt in the accident.
Ms Cobb said she posted the video at YouTube because her son wanted to see if they could get more than 1000 hits.
It worked - more than one million viewers have watched the 40-second video on at Jalopnik and more than 350,000 have viewed it on YouTube.
But Ms Cobb's lucky break has come at a price. She was forced to disable the comments on her YouTube video after she was criticised for filming while driving.
However, the debate's still raging at Jalopnik. "cubist_zirconia" kicked it off today with the assertion that "the fact is, the "big picture" if you will, Cobb was engaging in exactly the sort of behavior that gets people killed. period."
"People who pull stunts like that need to be called on it. no exceptions."
Ms Cobb told Jalopnik she always films dangerous behaviour on the road and threatens the drivers that she'll take it to their boss.
Whether the plank incident will further fuel her desire to tap-and-drive is anyone's guess. For the moment, she said she's just thankful to be alive.
"I most definitely know how lucky I was," she said.
"Damage was mostly the hood and windshield, again, very lucky."

Lucky indeed!

I watched that video yesterday. She was was pacing a flat bed truck on her right. In front of her was a small trailer. Out of nowhere on the left side of the trailer a 2x4 crashes into and through her windshield. It was a sizable piece of wood. It could have killed her.

I'm not sure if that's the case here but road debris from trucks that don't tarp there loads properly has contributed to a few deaths like this one in Calgary last summer:

What was later determined is that it must of come off some metal scrap hauler.

It looked to me like the truck ahead of her struck the board as it was laying in the road... i dont think it actually left his trailer.

I had this exact thing almost happen to me a couple of years ago in a little coupe.

the truck ahead of me struck a bent piece of re-bar laying in the road, it flew up and was headed right for my windshield... a bent corner of it grazed the headlight and it bounced back off to the side.

damage to the headlight was surprisingly minimal.

could have been worse.

I wouldn't call this the most terrifying car accident ever recorded. Especially if you count certain racing events such as drag races etc etc.

Still, glad no one was hurt.

The youtube link (her original video) is funny since they said it was a 2x4 and clearly it is not.

There was an accident similar to this in the 1950's. The Los Angles Times
had a picture of two fireman holding up a man with a 2X4 sticking through his chest and out his back. He had hit some sort of a barricade and a 6 foot 2X4 came through the windshield and stabbed him.

The fireman had to use a chain saw to cut off the board short enough to get him out of the car and into the ambulance.
They cut it till there was about 4 inches out the back and about 6 inches out the front.

A very chilling picture to say the least. I can still see it clearly even today.
Never heard if the guy survived or not but he was clearly alive at this time.

I would agree. Here in Virginia about 10 years ago we had a family wiped out when a deer went through the windshield. The deer was still alive and flayed the entire family to death in its struggle.

I would say that is more terrifying. To survive the impact but to be "la machined" to death by a deer's hooves. I don't think that family died quickly, especially the children strapped in the child seats.

I hope that they also reminded her that to film something while driving is somewhat unsafe as well......
