Default New Computer/upgrading game/install issue

Ahoy again,
Well I broke down and got an Asus laptop for comfort and specifically to play SH. I loaded up 1.5 and had no problems with the basic install BUT, as soon as I loaded any mods their was that message that no-one wants to see. "...can't find 'crew management. __file___ something or other' (I will post the exact message later as I'm at a different location at the moment. I guess the most I can ask right now is; are there any special patches for Windows 7 (64bit) (there is 8g of ram in the Asus), I plan to install Websters GFO mod and either DT's mess hall sink mod or one of Vicker's interior mods.
If anyone has been through this with 1.5 and graphics or sound mods robbing the menu file, I'd appreciate some pointers or direction as to what could cause a game file to "not be found". I did have to do a reinstall because I didn't save the menu file.
I am prepared to part with most of the mods I used to love to have loaded but I do want the interior boat mods if possible.
Thanks in advance.

Two things which (may) help. First, do you have UAC and did you disable it? Second, did you install SHIV directly to your C: drive?

Alright, first things first.

Backup your registry, perform a recovery disc for the system and a bootable repair disc.

Next, you need to install a virus scanner on your computer, like nortons 360 just as I did.

Next, defrag your hardie, and make a recovery partition if not already made.

Now comes your issue, the mods. Did you put JSGME? installed it to SH4 root folder?

How about this, uninstall the game fully and a clean reinstall as described here

Check each mods readme/changelog, and see if it conflicts with the other desired mods. If not available, browse through the mod directory and compare the files on both mods. Maybe one overwrites the other without you knowing or it telling.

I wish you the best experience with your new laptop and keep us posted for anything else.

You know, I actually did disable the UAC just cause it was buggin me, and I haven't tried the game since then, I'll get back to you. I dawned on me that the UAC may have been interupting something. Is that where we were going with this? I had this same thought, I hope that works.
As for the C drive, always, yes.
Thanks

Nope, nothings working. The game runs with 1.5 but as soon as I put in any mod at all, I get this

Sorry about the rather large image, anyway, does anyone know why as soon as I use a mod, any mod, I get this and the game hangs. I've never had to use that smilie before.

Just so we're clear, you installed it directly to the C Drive as opposed to program files in C?

So C:/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter ?

Or did you install it to C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter?

If the latter option is true, don't install to the C Drive program files. Windows has a nasty habit of caching files from there/rerouting where they are installed. Find another location not in the program files and reinstall it.

One more thing, though you may already have done this. Did you restart your PC after installing? I know Vista (and I think W7) need to be restarted after installing some apps, otherwise the program isn't recognized by the registry.

Well, that was what Wernher was trying to tell me but it wasn't getting through to me until you mentioned it again. I will do this on my next install. I finally got the game to run w' the most of the mods by simply changing the compatability mode to vista. Oh well, at least it's working,...
actually I've got the graphics up full, the game looks great, I'll get TMO or something comperable loaded soon and then it should really take off. It's also playing fast, the mouse tracking, everything is playing as it should now. I will put the game directly on the C drive later and that should take care of any other hiccups. Great!!
Thanks, now I'm going hunting!!

I did this on my ASUS win7 64bit, no problems. Have most of the disk partitioned separately, put SH4 under D:\programs\silent... No problems here, except have to keep it plugged in as it needs to run the fan full time for cooling (as with most games, this is really an overgrown netbook).

Yes, and I noticed this when I accidentally had the UPS power off, the fan problem and it started lagging really bad, which scared me so bad I found I somehow had the power strip switch off. WHEW. Yeah! Gotta have it plugged in!!
