For those of you who run TMO-RSRD with the latest patch to both, you might be interested in this one:
On my first patrol on Dec.8, 1941 out of Pearl in the USS Nautilus, running at 2/3 (about 9 knots), I believe I encountered what turned out to be the Wake Island Invasion Force! At 023-58N, 147-03E and approximately 2200 hours on December 18, I encountered 3 DDs, 2 Maya class Heavy Cruisers, a Hiryu fleet carrier, and a Soryu class fleet carrier, heading almost dead south towards Wake Island! Being on the surface, I was quicky detected by 2 of the DD's who rushed to the attack. Surviving the first charge, I managed to sink both DDs using 2 Mark 10's each (I prefer the Mark 10 because although less powerful, they seem to be much more reliable than the early Mark 14's. All the manuvering brought me within 1800 yards of the Soryu. Havng reloaded at realistic times (I run at 75% realism, not using manual targeting but leaving in Map updates and the external camera - love to watch them sink up close!), I let go all 4 bow tubes, making 3 hits. Immediately on firing I turned hard to port until I could bring the 2 stern tubes to bear. Both hit, and the flattop went down like a brick, bow first, explosions all around. Deciding they must be headed for Wake, I gave chase after a couple of hours, and found them again the next day. This time the last DD approached too close and down he went, followed by the Hiryu! That one took only 4 eels, leaving me 2 total. I sent the bow shot after one of the 2 remaining Maya cruisers, but he turned away in time and it missed. Then went up to Midway to reload with over 37,000 tons of warships on my record, and am now on my way to my patrol zone. What a first cruise, and it's just beginning!

Lot of action near Wake around Dec - Feb of 42. Havn't played that area in a long time, but I recall one carrier group coming from the NNW of Wake heading south to Eniewetok..{spelling} in Dec., so that's probably what you found. Another larger TF leaves Truk and goes to Eniewetok, but don't think it heads up to Wake. Also several CA groups.
I consider invasion forces the group with merchants and liners. I know a few invasion groups also leave somewhere south of Wake, probably Eniewetok and go into Wake sometime in Feb of 42. Seems they had a lot of Nagaras. So lot's of action Feb that you could probably find if you sit between Wake and Eniewetok. |

its october 17th 1943, and while on my way northeast bound to wake, I encounter a taskforce. With 100% difficulty, I decided to shadow till I get into an attack position. I did, only to discover that they were Americans
![]() But it showed that I'm playing by the book, which is the case with realism, but all I can say is we had a good tracking party... ![]()

That read really good! Sounded like a heart thumper! W' TMO you'll likely get some candy when you end the patrol.
Good Hunting, Hope the rest of yer patrol yields more tonnage. ![]()
