Default Odd question

Why does GWX 3 start with August 1st 1939?

So you can get your Naval protocol going! And, when that important message comes in saying that your at war with Poland! You say to yourself "O.K. boys this is what been training for, this is no drill, it's the real thing! I'm going to expect the best from all of you!

Because back when the game was new several of us complained that 14 u-boats were sent out on patrol on August 19, 1939, and we couldn't do that. I think it was Beery who came up with the mod. JScones liked it and it got passed on to the original GW team, so it wound up in GWX.

If you don't like waiting a month for the war to start, simply choose a September 1 start date. I start my 2nd Flotilla career out of Wilhelmshaven by running a false patrol on August 1, which consists of cruising around the harbor looking at the sights. I then finalize my crew quals with SH3 Commander, then set Commander's 'Days In Base' for 18, which means my first real patrol starts on August 19, just like the real thing.

For my 1st and 7th Flotilla careers I start my false patrols on September 1, then set 'Days In Base' to Random, which means I'll be starting my career at an unknown random date sometime in September.

Does anyone know which 14 u-boats it was that was at sea?

I used to be able to start the war in a type IX boat, in GWX 3, it will not let me, any why to fix this?
