I've tried repeatedly over the last couple of patrols to get into Tokyo Bay to cause some havoc. But every time I get to the relatively shallow area immediately east of Yokosuka, the game crashes as soon as I try to go to a periscope view.
Occasionally, I make it as far as a bit north of Yokosuka when underwater (I'd get shot to pieces on the surface). At several points during the war, there have been a pair of cruisers, one heavy and one light, parked a bit west-northwest of Yokosuka. But I can't get anywhere near them without the game crashing. I successfully infiltrated the general Yokosuka/Chiba/Tokyo Bay area few times earlier in my war career, even going right up to Tokyo harbor proper. Why can't I do it now? FWIW, game date is now June 1945, but I had the same problem on at least two earlier patrols in 1945 as well. I've used TMO 2.0 for my entire war career. The only changes have been the addition of SCAF for TMO2 and MaxOptics IV likewise for TMO2, which I added several patrols ago. What's the deal?

![]() I don't know about your problem. I've had CTD's when trying to listen at various places though. You should post this in the TMO thread. Ducimus would be the one to ask. |

For what it's worth I'm using TMO and have the exact same problem.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm also using RSRD. Last edited by General Tso; 03-03-11 at 10:26 PM. |

Well, I'm completely stumped, and apparently Ducimus has no ideas either.
I'm not sure it's a TMO problem really. I know I was able to get into Tokyo Bay earlier in the war. I started using some other mods (SCAF and MaxOptics IV), in addition to TMO, in the latter part of the war (always installing when in port), so maybe those had something to do with it. One other idea: I've done so much activation/deactivation of mods with JSGME, that it's possible something got mucked up with my SH4 install. I kept a copy of the unmodified game, so I'm going to restore that & start over with a different mod (perhaps RFB instead of TMO) & see whether the Tokyo Bay crashes still happen. update2: I was still getting crashes as soon as I got anywhere near Yokosuka in Tokyo Bay. Then I applied the NTCore 4GB patch to SH4.exe. I only have 4GB RAM (see sig) but thought perhaps SH4 needed more RAM because of the mods. That might have been the key. I'm now in Tokyo Bay in 1945 after applying the 4 GB patch, using just TMO 2.0. No crashes so far. Going to try adding my prior mods one by one & make sure of no more crashes @ Tokyo Bay.

Thanks for the update. I'll be interested in hearing what happens after you add all of the mods.

Got TMO2.0+SCAF+MaxOpticsIV loaded and heading back toward Tokyo Bay with one of my mid-1945 savegames. So the only difference between now and when I was having the Tokyo Bay crashes is that I've applied the 4GB patch to SH4.exe.
Will post results as soon as I get a chance to make the trip. It takes a while to get to Tokyo, even with time compression, due to running into task forces & enemy aircraft. update1: OK, looks like it's now stable. Going to re-load with the standard SH4.exe to see whether that was indeed the problem. I noticed that SH4.exe's memory use doesn't go much above 1.6 GB according to System Monitor, even when I'm in Tokyo Bay. So I have a hard time understanding how the 4GB patch has anything to do with not crashing. update2: Yes, I definitely get crashes using the standard Steam SH4.exe in Tokyo Bay. No crashes with the 4GB-patched .exe. There it is. Memory consumption isn't much different. At the time it crashed, the standard SH4.exe was using pretty much the same amount of RAM as the patched .exe, about 1.6 GB.

Update on an update: Still no crashes in/around Tokyo Bay, since using the 4GB patched SH4.exe + TMO 2.1 + SCAF + MO4.
I don't know why the patch works such wonders, but simply allowing SH4.exe to use additional RAM - even if it doesn't - has chased away the crashies.

1.6-something GB is a magical crashing point with unpatched SH4.exe? Why?

I have no idea!
![]() It just is... try a few test with Process Monitor running in the background and it's always between 1.61 and 1.64GB it'll give up the spirit... From one test, un-patched SH4.exe - note the CPU-use actually drops before reaching max. memory, around 1.61GB: ![]() Patched - loading OM Museum. Again, note CPU-use: ![]() ![]() |
