Default sh4 v1.4 rfb-best surface speed for max range?

is there a list for the best speed for max range in the different subs?

i tried searching and am unable to narrow it down. some say 10kts some 5kts

the sargo i am in right now seems to like default 1/3 approx 3-5 kts but not sure if efficiency is top-notch i cringe when torps are gone and the nearest refit is thousands of nm's away, fuel tank level looking sad. almost to '43

any help would help LOL

thanks!

Under your navigators tab, there is a button that will tell you your boats maximum range at it's current speed, fuel level, and sea conditions. Try different speeds until you find the one that gives greatest range - it's usually somewhere between 7 and 10 Kts.

Just make sure you are not charging batteries when you do this or you'll have one engine guzziling fuel at Flank speed and your results will not reflect normal use.

May I ask you to look for a better boat? Based on shakedown, we actually consumed 66, 87, 110, 160 and 188 miles approximately per gallon (ehem, %?) on flank, full, standard, 2/3, and 1/3. Sargo is a limp boat when it comes to ranges, and I suggest you hump around Saipan/Palau/ Carolines area, till you get a Gato or a Porpoise. Reading wikipedia, found the boats range to be 20000km @10kts. . The only way to be sure, is to shakedown your boat to the west coast, and try a 1000 km increments at various speeds, note down mpg. Also note charge consumption while underway submerged at daylight.

I would suggest you tabulate ranges/consumption like Capt. Morgan said. The navigator will give you the max range so you only have to devide by the fuel you have remaining. Just be sure to allow the boat time to reach the normal speed for the engine setting, and don't do this while charging batteries.

You will have to do this whenever you get a new boat and possibly when you change mods. I do this and collect all sorts of engineering data (like turning radius and speed) when I get a new boat, so I have the info when I need it. It's a PITA, but is the only way I know to get the information.

I seem to recall a line in the RFB manual which claimed that in every boat, ahead 2/3 was set to the most efficient speed.
