Default Sorry, more GWX questions

Sorry, more GWX questions.

I have 2 issues that I have come across:
As a learner I am playing with zero realism until I get used to everything.

1. The Hydrophone does not pick up any sounds since the upgrade to GWX. I am looking at a cargo ship at 0 degrees, a couple of hundred metres away. It is moving, but the hydrophone is silent...nothing. I can stand on deck and see it.

2. The weapons officer does not target nearest ship, again even if I can see it. He says "target nearest ship" but does not lock on.

Any help would be appreciated

John

The early hydrophones have a blind spot of between 10 and 20 degrees (0 being the centre).

1) Two things could be happening here.

First, If you are waiting for the sonar guy to find it, you have to be submerged (duh, but just saying), and he has to be competent enough to find it. Sometimes he's not. I've had the same issue in my latest career with my guy too. "IT'S RIGHT FREAKING THERE! I CAN SPIT ON IT! WHY CAN'T YOU HEAR IT?!".

Secondly, the hydrophones had "blindspots" where they were unable to point to pick up contacts. If you do it manually though, you can 'see' through the blindspot.

2) In what regard? The Torpedos or Deck gun? I have never tried that feature for submerged attacks, as I want to target specific points on the ship. And it's not too hard to just spin the scope around till I find the target.

For Deck gun, I remember trying it when I started playing, and he not listening either. That or I didn't realize how long it takes for the deck gun to traverse across the deck. But I've found it's just easier to use the Bino view, and hit the spacebar.

Thank you so much for your help.

1. I hear nothing, as I dive to 30m, and always manually check for sounds..not sure if his experience level would interfere with a manual check. But the engine of my sub is not even picked up before it stops at my order to.

2. In torpedo mode. I look through the periscope, tell him to target the nearest ship, in my pre upgrade the man would lock onto the nearest ship and it was locked in the periscope for me and at it heading in relation to me.

Not the end of the world but I see it as a bug and would like to fix it.

Thank you for responding and taking the time to help me

OH theres your problem. the phones don't work at 30m. They work fine at 29.9 or 30.1, but never at exactly 30m. It has something to do with the water pressure at that exact depth forcing the Sache to be pressed inwards, disabling the Rennmaus from being able to spin it's wheel correctly. Rennmaus blow out was a common problem on U-boats, and they searched for a long time for a replacement. Eventually they got improved Backenhörnchen, but that just caused the problem to start happening at 50m. With the introduction of the Eichhörnchen, it seemed to resolve the problems, as long as there were enough Eicheln to keep the things moving.

Pretty sure it's intentional, and not a bug. GWX was written for accuracy as much as possible.

Imagine, you're looking through the scope, and order Weps to target the nearest ship. He can either push you out of the way, or just spin the scope around with your face still attached to it.

It's very unrealistic as there was only one person using the scope at a time, and that was usually you.

Am I to take this a serious post or are you taking the piss out of me?

I will wait for an answer before I continue with my reply as I would not like to assume your intent.

However, if someone is on a learning curve, as I am, asks a simple quesion I would expect to get an answer...or not if ou dont wantg to assist..but not one that seems to ridicule.

Not ridicule, just a sense of humor. And the game doesn't model your own ship sounds via hydrophone I believe.

Many of the 'so called Bugs' credited to GWX are infact stock SH3 bugs.
We (And I do mean all the people here at SubSim) take hours if not days to help others.
At times we do post something as I did.
It was not intended to insult or take your 'piss' away.
How about I just totally ignore you?
Would that make things all kissy kissy?

Or would you rather I insult you and and call you names?
Lighten up Mate.
Have a Beer or something and roll on.

At the end and begining of most of my posts I alway thank in advance as I am aware of the help given to learners on this forum, the same help I give to others on other forums. I mod on another forum and give hours there also, so I am aware of the volunteer status.

I am fine thank you very much..no need lighten up.
I responed to a post by someone else...I wasn't being nasty in any way...all I did was ask a question because it appeard that way.
No harm done, it was a question and I got an answer...no biggie.

And I am here to answer your questions.
Yes it does get frustrating at times.
Not knowing all in's and out's of the Stock SH3 Game then throwing GWX on the top?
Many blame GWX.
My standard responce is as I stated for a simple reason.
GWX used a dedicated group of testers.
Those Guys spent MONTHS doing boreing tests over and over and over!
Just to find every simple problem.
Then they had to report those tests.
Us Dev's made a small adjustment and guess what?
They had to do the samething over and over and over again!

As I said before and I'll say it again and again as needed!
GWX has no bugs!

And I have as yet seen it proved to me!
What you do or do not do on other forums has no bearing on GWX.
And if you ment some other post then mine?
You should make that clear.
